Sebastian HammUnusual routes  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 31, 2008

Holiday in US.
From South Lake to Bishop Pass, then I traversed to the South Side and ascended via a very fine gully (lots of sand inside, but good rocks - brighter and more solid than the other parts - and some nice climbing passages) to the southern summit and then to the top. Descend: I missed the normal route :-) and followed a steep gully full of rubble to the right. Very fine route up and bad route down! Very stormy day, due to the strong flurries the last 200m were mostly crawling than walking.

Talus was solid (unlike the normal route) and the slab section at the top of the chute was fun. Climbed with loaner dog Jasmine. Had to push her up a few Class 4 spots. Views of the Palisades were spectacular.

Great solo hike from Bishop Pass. Stuck to as much class 3 as I could find on the way up. Took my time on the way down - it seemed like every rock was about to move. Ugh. The views, however, were amazing.

Fun climb, though move as much to the N/W as possible for more sustained class 3. Had to down climb a short section of 5th class at a head wall dropping me into the next chute to the north. finally topped out after a short 5th class section on the talus slope below the summit. As everyone else has mentioned the views are what make this climb worth while.

The TailorI will be back!
Date Climbed: Aug 4, 2007

Started from the Bishop Pass trailhead and I made it about 1/4 of the way up and soon realized that I was going to exhaust myself for the trip back so I headed back down.

I plan on attempting this again, but I will be sure to get a good nights sleep at Bishop Pass before summit!

Solo dayhike from South Lake. Started early hoping to beat the weather that was forecast to hit by early afternoon. Some great views even with the low level clouds!

Scrambled up from Bishop Pass in order to investigate NW Ridge of Winchell. Didn't like what I saw which prompted to climb West Ridge of Winchell instead the following day. I am glad that I changed my mind :)

Warmup for sierra challenge. Got a late start but made good time. I went up a more southerly chute looking for better rock. I found some slightly more interesting bits but not enough. But the petite summit and the awesome views made it worth all the talus hopping!

Climbed with EJ from Bishop Pass. Going directly from sea level to camping at 11,200 (Bishop Lake) feet just about killed me! I was ok on the asecnt of the peak though. Very fun day, if a little hot. The views of the Palasades are fantastic. The mosquitos at the lower elevation were horrible.

some rotten snow to cross to get to Bishop Pass, then fun talus and ledge scrambling up to the peak. There were three of us people and one dog; the humans stayed away from the snow, the dog jumped right into it. We ascended to the right of the "standard" chute, which made for a more pleasant way up - we came down following the use trail and cairns. A great early season shape up hike.
