Hiked to Pico Espejo after climbing Pico Bolívar in the morning. Finding the teleférico not operating, I ended up hiking all the way down to Mérida the rest of the day. Not for the faint of heart...
Great views from the top - I can see why it´s a popular tourist attraction.
Route "Climbed": Cable Car Date Climbed: Aug 10, 2004
When we, i.e. my son Michael,11, our guide Arevalo, and I, were climbing Pico Bolivar, we were allowed to take one of the first gondolas in the morning, which are normally for personnel only, so we were able make an early start for Pico Bolivar.
Been there dozens of times, either when coming back from the Traverse from La Mucuy or through the cable car. There is no real mountaineer interest in this peak, expept that it is the last staition of the highest and longest cable car in the world, thus, the highest cable car station in the world: 4.765m, (almost as high as Mont Blanc!!).
If you are hiking up from the 4th station (Loma Redonda), carry enough water for 3-5 hour trek up to Pico Espejo. And if the station is closed, there is no water up there.
Route Climbed: Traverse Date Climbed: 08th march 2002
After climbing Pico Bolivar and Pico Humboldt I had to go to Pico Espejo because it was the way down to Merida. It was good that the cable lift was not working. So there was nobody on the top.
