| What came to be known as the "gang of four" started planning this trip late in '05 and finally all arrived on the island in Feb. of '06 and mustered for the event. Bob Packard, the venerable peak bagger with thousands of climbs to his credit, John Mitchler, Dave Colville and myself set out on a fine sunny day. By the evening of the second day, the rain commenced and seldom let up for the remainder of the trip. After 13 miles of jungle slog we made the summit about noon on the third day and heartily celebrated as the sky cleared long enough for a few photo opps before the rain once again engulfed us. We emerged from the jungle and drove out on the afternoon of the fifth day, tired and bruised, but elated that we got back all in one piece with a great story to tell. |
