SarahThompsonTwo separate hikes  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 18, 2007

Started from about 11,700 on the east side of Engineer Pass for both hikes (this was how far the Engineer Pass Road was plowed).

5/18/07 - Wildhorse is a unique little peak. I climbed it via its NE slopes after Blackwall, and then went on to UN 13132, & Darley.

5/20/07 - Traversed from Seigal Mountain and went on to climb Darley (again). I didn't think Engineer was a very interesting peak.

WildHorse Peak is awesome. Loved the rocks along the ridge. Nice views from the summit!

timfoltzFun Climb  Sucess!

Engineer was a fun short day hike, although the true difficuly came in getting our little mitsubishi 2wd rental car up to the top of the pass. We encountered many people who were kind enough to help push us a couple times, and their first question was "is that a rental?" Anyways, it was a fun way to stretch the legs, and the view from the top is quite magnificent.

Aaron JohnsonRoute Climbed: From Road Date Climbed: Summer, Fall

Back in "the day" I climbed Engineer with my jeep up either Yvonne Pass road or the steep, off-camber road from the "parking area corner" (the scene of many fatal accidents in the past). These roads are shut down now, and wisely so. I've "climbed" Engineer in recent years using my own two feet from the parking area corner, all 300 feet of it. Not to make light of the mountain, 'cause it's a beauty. The view from the top is one of Colorado's most spectacular. Mountains in every direction, to the horizon! Some would belittle the mountain because it fell prey to the ravages of mining fever and progress before the 20th century had arrived. With a road there, why bother to climb it? Good point. Use the road. But don't fault the mountain. Get off your butt, get out of your 4WD and climb the steep but closed road to the summit. For what it's worth, the reward is tremendous. You'll be glad you did.

I've climbed Wildhorse Peak twice, both on gorgeous weather days. If you like great views and solitude, Wildhorse is hard to beat, and the view is one of the best from any mountain in Colorado.
