| Climbed Spalding from Summit Lake as part of the Mount Evans Loop route after work last Thursday. I left work at my usual time, and started the hike at 7:00. I made it back to my car at 10:00, but I didn't take the direct ridge descent back to the lake, instead opting to follow the Evans Road's path back to the lake. | |

| I planned on summitting Spalding then going on to Gray Wolf, but when I arrived at Summit Lake the weather was terrible. I hiked the ridge in mostly white-out conditions, with high winds and lots of snow and ice. When I got to the summit, I could not see Gray Wolf so I decided to summit that one another day. There were three others following me, but I never ran into them and I did not see them on the way down, although their car was still at the trailhead. | |

| After climbing Gray Wolf, we traversed to Spalding and then returned to Guanella Pass. I can't believe I didn't take a picture of Mount Evans north face from the summit! It's such a magnificent view, argh! | |

| What a great little climb/hike. Talked with a few climbers who had just come up the snowfield on the west end of Summit Lake. The views were great. Went on to finish up the "Mile in the Sky" and visited Evans' summit. | |

| I was trying to bag Evans and as I came up to the ridge Spalding was just "there" so I did it. Somewhat uneventful except for getting lots of mountain goat shots. | |
