ADHDassassinTwice Climbed  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 25, 2007
The first time I went up Baldy we had a chance to eat lunch and I had a great time, the second time was considerably harder as we had already hike 10 miles + before even starting to climb baldy. Rayado... You have to love it :)

I just saw we were climbed Baldy the same summer. What troop were you with and from Texas?

Date Climbed: Jul 31, 2009

Climbed it solo (I am a ranger at Philmont) from Pueblano up through French Henry then the switchbacks to the ridge. Met some cool crews along the way. Started at 8am, summited at 12:30...Stayed about 45 minutes before a sudden storm brought down loads of hail on me. Went to Baldy Town on the way down. It was pouring rain the whole way back to the Ponil Turnaround. Great day and I am glad I got to spend more time up there then last time. This was my first 12'er in 07

aprovanceBaldy via east trail  Sucess!

Great hike, I loved it! It was my first real peak. Once past the treeline, there was scree all the way to the top. It was sometimes slow going on the scree, but that seemed to do a good job of reducing the effects of AMS in some of the other hikers. I really enjoyed the view, but sadly we were unable to stay at the summit for more than about 20 minutes due to the fact that a thunderstorm was heading our way. I would love to go to Philmont and do it again!

Hiked to the top as part of a Philmont scout trip in my teens (mid 1980s). It was a fun, challenging week.

My first mountain! What an experience. I was with my Dad and returned a few years later on another trek. I hope to go back again someday.

I was part of the P2K contingent from Trapper Trails Council in the summer of 2000. This was my first major peak and my Philmont trek is what really got me into backpacking/climbing. Tons of fun!

First big peak I ever climbed. Went up it with a full pack with my scout troop. Pretty exhausting.

We started our trek (Itinerary 24) at Ponil. It took several days to make our way northwest, out of Philmont and into Greenwood (aka Cottonwood) Canyon. Throughout that time we'd catch occasional glimpses of Baldy, especially two spectacular views, one from Wilson Mesa, and the other from the ridgeline between Copperpark and Greenwood Canyon (I've posted an image on SummitPost of that moment). After the very steep descent into Copperpark (what our boys would take to calling Suicide Slide!), we camped, then took the route through Baldy Town, up to the top of Baldy, back to Baldy Town (to pick up our food), then back to Copperpark. The hardest part? That's one steep road out of Baldy Town over to Copperpark after you've spent all you energy summiting Baldy itself!

couimetNot sure of the route

My first summit. Climbed with troop 564 out of Bel Air, Maryland in 1999 (?). Was the one of the last days of our 120 mile hike/adventure. Awesome time.

e-docRoute Climbed: Date Climbed: August 1978  Sucess!

Climbed as part of a boy scout trip from Greensboro NC. I remember it was a tall pile of rocks with a great view. The most memorable event was our crews getting lost on the north side of the mountain and our bivouacing overnight, though we barely could see the summit. to the south. The next day we hiked by compass and line of sight to French Henry camp. It was a cold night. I don't get lost anymore.
