Climbed Wahoo's NE ridge as Day 4 of the 2009 Sierra Challenge. Continued on past Snow Tongue Pass, Pk 12,920, and Mt Goethe. Made the mistake of climbing Muriel instead of descending via Alpine Col -- neither a great choice.
Sierra Challenge. The approach was fairly tame, and the ascent of the NE was fun. Summited with Ben, Bob, Adam, Tom, Karl, and a few others. Shared some Fat Tires up there before we turned back and descended.
Climbed with Laura Molnar, dayhiked from North Lake.
We avoided the talus at the base by heading up some slabs from Upper Golden Trout Lake. The lower part of the ridge was somewhat loose, but it got more solid towards the top. We kept it to class 3 or so by staying a bit left.
Descended east face - class 2-3 rock to sandy slopes, followed by seemingly endless talus-hopping traverse.
Set out to traverse to Glacier Divide and Mt Goethe. Could not get across the ridge alone and had trouble with altitude and asthma. Spent the night on Wahoo Summit.
Started out climbing snow on the north face to the NW ridge at 12,300'. I got of the snow for a short class 3 section(150'), then was forced back on to snow. The last 200' on the ridge was fun. Amazing 360* view from the summit.
Route Climbed: Northwest Ridge Date Climbed: 12-AUG-1998
Moderate scramble, exciting at times. Wonderful views along the whole route. Fractal patterns in the melting ice on nearby Paine Lake. Stunning views of the Glacier Divide from the summit.
