Great climb with awesome views in every direction....especially of Siyeh....actual climb from the saddle was looser than I thought it would be. Summitted with Cougar14 and that really tough Kitty!

Done in combination with Going to the Sun - we practically ran up the ridge to summit and get back down to meet up with the rest of the group who was waiting. Fun side trip!

Great 1000 foot romp from the saddle with Going to the Sun. Very much like our San Juans in Colorado. Awesome east face! Wow! Excellent view. Part of a long day, which was followed by a climb of Going to the Sun. Highly recommended!

saintgrizzlySouth Ridge from saddle between Matahpi and GTTS  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 17, 2006

This was a thoroughly enjoyable 1000 foot ascent from the saddle between Matahpi and GTTS Mountains, done during GMS Mountaineering Week with Aaron and Ellen, and a very nice group of GMS folks. The view of Sexton Glacier from the summit is quite memorable—it's quite a bit larger than the view from the Sun Road makes it appear, and from Matahpi you only see the top half! Anyway, a very nice outing, quickly done—and it's a good thing because it was shortly after returning to the saddle and traversing GTTS that blister problems hit in a major way. Ouch! But made both summits, and despite my feet a great day!

In 2003 I attepted it with 2 siblings and my father, we were forced to turn back when the wind got so strong we were nearly blown off the mountain. This past time I climbed with my father, and 2 friends who are much more experienced climbers. It's a fun climb but extremely hard on the joints.

A fun scramble with no one else in sight. made a misguided attempt down the North Ridge, which appeared to be loose class 4/5, on my way to Siyeh.

Went with a great GMS group during Mountaineering week. A good time was had by all. The weathered Gatorade bottle is still there and surviving.

Pleasant link-up with Going-to-the-Sun Mountain. If you only have half of a day, Matahpi alone may be a better bet than GTTS. The views are better IMO, though the climbing is less demanding.
