derektheredSore and sunburned  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 27, 2009

Hiked with some classmates to this amazing peak thru Maybird Gulch. Scrambling up the East Ridge cliff was the toughest part of the day, but it was totally amazing. The summit climb was cake, and the views were pure eye candy. We decided to take the standard Red Pine trail on the way back, except we lost it and ended up in another boulder field about a mile from the actual trail! This was a great day.

Did this one again to visit the Alpine Ridge area after not being up there for over 15 years. Perfect weather. Reached the summit 2 hours 40 minutes from the White Pine Trailhead, then downclimbed the west ridge to move onto peak 11,137 and beyond to Chipman Peak.

Also, reached this summit via Red Pine on the Beatout Hike with Dad and uncle Alan in 1988. Returned in June of 1992 and summitted with Matt Kline. Summitted again in 1993 with Dave, and headed to White Baldy. This summit is one of my favorites in the Wasatch Range. Gotta get back!

It was a great way to spend the Labor Day! I went with fellow SPer kteichert and his wife. We hit the TH at 7:15am, and reached the summit promptly at 10:15am. The knife-edge on the east ridge wasn't as bad as I thought, although care must be taken when crossing it. The final push to the summit looked nearly impossible when viewed from the saddle between White Baldy and Pfeifferhorn, but once again, when we got there, it wasn't bad at all! A great scramble, with fun boulder hopping, and outstanding summit views, especially of Broads Fork Twin Peaks, Sunrise Peak (O'Sullivan Peak) to the north, Lone Peak to the west, Box Elder Peak to the south, and White Baldy from the east. After about an hour on the summit, we headed down, taking us two hours to arrive back at our car. I look forward to doing this one again!

Finally I can check Pfeifferhorn off the must-do list. I can see it from my house in Alpine and have always wanted to do it. Went up via Red Pine Lake. Despite heavy suggestions to not bring dogs, I brought my dog Ginger. She made the trip much more enjoyable. Now she has done Provo, Box Elder, Reids Peak, Cascade, Bald Mountain and Pfeifferhorn.

First time up the pfeifferhorn. Took the kids with me. Hiked the Red Pine route. I was very apprehensive about the knife edge ridge crossing as I had heard it was "very scary". Either I'm dumb or the stuff I had heard was highly exaggerated, because it was a complete non-event. Fun but not nearly as heart pounding as Lone Peak :)

Forecast of mostly sunny turned into low clouds obscuring the summit. They cleared fortunately and we were able to make the summit.

Awesome scrambling so close to home, continued on to White and Red Baldy before I had to get home for something. Would have loved to continue on the ridge east. Full report, map and pics at http://www.willhiteweb.com/index_144.htm

    Date Climbed: Jun 15, 1992

While out shopping the day before with my 6 month old kid, my buddy thought it was funny to sneak a 1/2 gallon jar of pickled pig's feet into my groceries during checkout. While packing for our day-hike to the summit, I packed the pig's feet into his pack w/o him knowing. I carried my kid to the summit, he carried a giant jar of pig's feet! Hasn't forgiven me yet...

Without question one of the classic routes in the Wasatch. Early early season conditions made for fun mixed climbing and amble opportunities for pro. Climbing with a great group in perfect weather. Hopefully, many more of these to come!
