slkrrA fun climb  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 15, 1995

I really liked this climb. Short and steep with some fun scrambling on the summit ridge. The weather was excellent and the view was fantastic!

Date Climbed: May 25, 2008

Besides the two guys at the trailhead I had the mountain to myself. There was a lot of snow up there yet and I'm pretty sure that was the biggest cornice I've personally been around. Impressive. I'll have to upload a pic.

Great mountain I used to live near and climb all the time, the first when I was 7. Nice little afternoon trip. Perfect view from the summit. Usually never saw anyone up in there on our traverses of the Vasquez during the weekdays. Favorite place in Colorado, by far.

weeds19Great climb from the Winter Park area  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 18, 1996

We spotted a couple of mountain goats and barely made it back to the car with enough light to see our feet. A wonderful after work climb!

Lots of false summits but a great hike. Excellent views from the top.

I found this to be a great hike with a wonderful view of RMNP. The directions to the trailhead as posted on this site are misleading. Follow the sins in the forest, and you should be fine. The trailhead now starts about 1 mile down the road from the actual trailhead (you must follow a closed portion of the road up about a mile and 500 vertical feet). Storms rolled in around 1:30 PM.

One of the first few mountains I summited...and very dear to my heart since I looked at it practically every day when I lived in my first mountain environment, the Fraser Valley.

Camped at timeberline and hiked to the suumit by 7 am. A glorius early morning ascent. Snow was still prevalent on the peaks and I enjoed a magnificent view of the Gores to the west and the Indian Peaks to the east. Byers is a prominent summit with a mighty view. My dog Sopris was along for the summit ride on this mountain.

My wife and 15 month old Kessler waited above timberline, just below the summit while I went to the top.

Left trailhead at 5:35am going solo to peak. On top by 6:45am which surprised me. The trailhead sign warned of three "false summits." I never could figure out which humps were these alleged false summits because it was always obvious that there was more mountain to climb just over each hump. I was surprised to be on top so quickly. All my marathon training (even though at low elevation) paid off.

Great sunrise on the way up the trail. Only stayed 15 minutes due to windy conditions. Ran back down the trail. Back at the car by 7:35am. Great two-hour hike.

Took a group of ski town 5th graders up to the summit. Their boundless energy made for a quick trip up, but a "distracted" trip down! This is a great hike for early, early morning, enabling a hiker to have the afternoon available for other activities.

What a great way to spend the 4th of July, it could become a tradition! :-). Wonderful views from a mountain that isn't even 13K. Expect quite a few people due to the proximity to civilization and easy trail.

Great mountain! We climbed on the holiday, so I suspect we saw more people than normal. Fun scramble near the top and a great view of one of Colorado's newest wilderness areas. This one's good for getting in shape, and it's in a beautiful area. There are many route possibilities once above timberline, and potential for solitude is excellent.
