ericwillhiteRoad up  Sucess!

At least the paved road up was scenic. We came up a dirt road from the north with a Jeep rental that had no lower gears or 4WD. It was intense up and down the mountain.

Drove the road all the way up past the ski resort than wandered around the summit area. Great views on the backside of Samaniego Peak.

Merlin736Like Maine in Feb.  Sucess!

In town for work and drove up in February. The snow and Juncos and conifers appear to be straight from Maine. The sunset and views of the town in the dark are splendid. Saw some sort of big weasel run across the road, but couldn't ID it in the dark.

KruckNeeds more snow  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jan 30, 2009

Temps were in the 50s I'd guess at the summit. The ski valley was operational but the snow was crud. Snow lingered on shaded slopes, but was not deep enough to warrant any flotation. Hiked from road while wife was doing business in Tucson. Good way to kill a few hours. Vistas from top were more impressive than I'd hoped. Needed a bigger map to be able to know what everything was from up there.

goat14erCatalina State Park to Mt. Lemmon  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 28, 2008

Tough, long hike from bottom to top, but well worth it. Rains from the days before left the plants along the trail to Romero Pass wet and soaked us as we fought the brush to gain Romero Pass. Creeks were running strong along the way. From there, the views opened up as the hike got steeper on the Mt. Lemmon Trail. Took the Wilderness of Rocks Trail to just beneath the summit, then hiked up to Lemmon Rock Lookout and over to the summit. Fresh snow coated the ground and frosted the trees. Hiked to the summit, then down the road to the ski area, trying not to slip on the icy road.

This is where I completed my first multi-pith climb. Can't remember the route name, but I will say it got me hooked. Great views of Tucson.

oldaditup many times  Sucess!

Family drove up when I was a kid, and I've been to the
top several times since. Most exercise was hiking up from
ski area with Roy Schweiker.

Dangers PopWonderful  Sucess!

Skipped out on a conference in Tucson and drove to the ski area near the top. Hiked to the summit and fire look out. Wonderful views of the desert floor. The "Sky Islands" are a marvel worth exploring.

DeanLemmon of a hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 13, 2006

Dennis Poulin and myself drove up past the ski area in the dark to the end of the road and slept in the trailhead parking lot (in our vehicles) and with the wind blowing at 9000 feet, it was pretty dang cold, even in my zero degree sleeping bag. The hike to the top (wandered around the buildings and general area) and back took about a half hour. The road is a pretty impressive feat of engineering. Views of Tucson from that road, especially in the dark, are outstanding. We had hiked to the Pinal County highpoint on the 12th, a full day and covering 12 miles with some of our blood left on the cacti guardians. Perhaps a trip report is forthcoming to explain what I mean.

surgentTwo visits  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 26, 2004

Nearly killed myself by dehydration earlier in the day hiking to Rice Peak, so I played it lazy and rode the lift up to the top and hiked from there (7/7/97). In 2004 went with my wife via some trails near the ski center. Top is flat and has been graded.

nebbenRoute Climbed: None Date Climbed: 5.28.05  Sucess!

Cheated, drove to the forest service parking lot just down the road from the observatory, walked the fence to the North.

Too bad so many Arizona mountains have observatories on the tops of them =(
