| Coming from the Rocky Mountains of Utah, this peak was easy, but beautiful. Rewarding views from the top. The hike through the woods, scrambling up the granite was my favorite part of the hike. I could see the towers of Boston from there - it was very cool. Hiking the mountain made me feel at home for a few hours. The day we hiked it, we were one of the few groups on the trail - the solitude was wonderful. There are some pretty lakes in the area too. I wish I had the time that I could have camped out and built a campfire and slept under the stars. | ||

| I climbed this mountain twice in the early 60's as a teenager, once with my family and the other time with our church youth group. It was the first mountain of any size that I ever climbed. The most amazing thing was the cool-aid stand at the top: runners would scuttle up and down the granite slopes to bring refreshment for us thirsty hikers (at a small price). The weather was cool enough that you wouldn't think to bring water along. Now when I climb, water is one of the main considerations. It was crowded even then, but still a really nice place to spend the day. | ||

| For a while I climbed Monadnock at least twice a year - as a season-opener and a season-ender. This year I kept hiking year-round, but still climbed it twice. This weekend's climb was a fallback plan due to iffy forecast further north and a foot of new snow - still met a dozen people on the mountain. A very fun little hike if you don''t mind crowds. | ||

| Great hike, I love the rime ice. You sure wouldn't know about the 125,000 people each year if you only did it in the winter! If your're interested, check out my trip report "Double Jeopardy". (Sorry, no idea how to make a link) | ||

| 5inch powder on top of mostly ice. Didn't need crampons, but they could have come in handy on a few scrambles. Passed about 8 people in total, a record low for Monadnock. | ||

| Crazy night outing. Day of planning for a weeknight overnight hike. We got there around 11:30pm and slept on the summit for sunrise. We then return to our vehicle and went to work. A great mountain for this kind of foolishness. | ||

| Ten other Brandeis students and I hiked this mountian this fall. We were very glad we got an early start because there were 7 bus loads of middle-schoolers hiking up as we were hiking down. If you live near Boston and don't want to drive far, this is a good hike. Bare summit and some of the hike is above tree line. I will probably be hiking this one some more becasue it is so convenient. | ||

| Never have I ever climbed a mountain where I wanted to leave the mountain and head to a city to escape from all the people. Welcome to Mt. Manadanock the second most climbed mountain in the world. Many of these people must be fit though because this mountain is far from the easiest mountain to hike. I almost turned around because it looked like it was going to be very foggy on top. Luckily the cloud broke a little after I began my summit climb. The White Dot Trail began out very easily but changed rapidly after hit a sign pointing that it was the most direct route up. The trail was rocky, steep and extremely worn down. It proved to be more difficult that I anticipated. It was hard to get any peace and quiet due to the seemingly tons of people on the trail. When I finally made it to the top I was greeted with a mixed view that was some covered by the clouds. On a clear day though the views are great. Due to overcrowding, I’ll take the White Mountains any day over Mt. Manadanock. Still by most other standard this mountain was not a bad hike at all. | ||

| Given that I live in Boston (actuallly 10 miles NW) this is a great little mountain for training. It also cuts down on the commute time if you dont feel like drving to the Whites. In my opinion the best time to climb this is in the Winter. The Cascade trail to the Spellman and/or Pumpelly is the most challenging although the White Dot is the fatest route. When the snow fills some good lines appear. Nothing technical although some 30-50 degree pitches can be found and free climbed. (see pics) Summer time brings out all the wannanbes...but some nice solo and bouldering can be had. | ||

| Okay. So I couldn't resist. I grew up in Keene, NH. and climbed to the top of Monadnock with my father when I was 5 years old. It was my first peak. We walked for a long way through the woods until we got close to the summit - then it was all rock. All I can remember is that it was a sunny day and we ate our lunch at the summit. Once on top it seemed like you could see forever. Although it's just over 3000 ft. it is the tallest peak for miles. It really does provide great views of the area. It was a wonderful day. Now I climb in the Pacific Northwest with my son. | ||
