| Luciano136 | Gould was good! ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 12, 2006 | |
| Climbed with Allen (see below) as a dayhike from Huntington Beach. Woke up at 3:30am and got back home around 1am. A long but fun day! I tend to get affected by altitude fairly easily and wondered if I would be able to make it from sea-level to 13k feet in a day. I noticed the altitude right at the trailhead. I tried to keep up the pressure breathing and only got a severe headache right near the summit. Well acclimatized, it definitely would've been easier but it was nonetheless very enjoyable. Awesome scenery and views! | ||

| kngalaric | Wonderful day in the Eastern Sierra ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 12, 2006 | |
| Bruno, Chrissy, Tom and I went for a loooooooong drive to Independence, started the trail at 9:30 and finished near 7 PM. Pretty easy. Kearsarge is an easy pass. Gould is very easily attainable. The final summit block is the only exposed section on the whole trip. Fun, fun, fun. Great day except for the smog form the High Desert (lame - tell those people to move) and the smoke form King's Canyon controlled burns. | ||

| Slushy snowshoe slog to tiring talus tromp. This hike has beautiful views, but it made me realize I need to whip my buns into better shape soon. | ||

| thedus | Pleasant Day Hike up South Ridge ![]() Date Climbed: May 13, 2006 | |
| Climbed up the south slope from Pothole Lake to the South Ridge. We used snowshoes for quite a bit of the way at the lower elevations, but the peak itself was fine. Gorgeous day, though would have been just a hair nicer without the haze in the distance. | ||

| Deb and I climbed up to Gould on our way to Dragon Peak. She had soloed this peak a week prior under windy conditions. Still a bit windy this day as well. Scrambled up the east side of the summit (4th class moves). The short gully to the east, just below the summit, looked in condition. Saw that Joe Dawson (assuming that's the same SP'er joesephdawson) made an entry in September. | ||

| Attempted to climb Gould driectly from Kearsarge pass trail. Slogged up talus until ridge was gained. Ended up on rock overhang, should have taken the easy way (Class 1-2 talus slope). Another lesson learned in a beautiful classroom. | ||

| A beautiful day on the Mountain. We hiked up the trail to Kearsarge Pass then went up the south ridge to Mount Gould. From Mount Gould we headed down to Golden Trout Lakes and followed the Golden Trout Lake trail back to Onion Valley. | ||

| X3 - 06 May 07 Really fun trip with Rick Kent and Tina despite the high winds (what's new?). Views are stupendous and vast! Always excited to get on some icy cold stone at altitude. :) Updated entry: 8 October 2005 OK, I did this peak again with Dave a week later; weather was much nicer although still windy. Took the south facing scramble up the summit blocks, much easier than the back side. MAN there is some angry looking ice in that northeastern chute! 2 October 2005 - Quick day hike could have been quicker if it weren't for the 40 knot winds at the pass! I was blown off my feet several times on the ridge line; had to dip down on the eastern side and mainly Class 3'd until reaching summit blocks. Totally forgot to check out the summit blocks on the south side, so I scrambled up on the north side (not too many footholds for boots unless you're over 5'5"!). Exited the summit on south side, much easier with pack and useless ice axe (served only as a lightning rod in the event of rain). Also hit up Peak 3912 because in my starvation/dehydration/hypothermic state, I thought it was Dragon Peak. HAHA! Then I saw Dragon Peak while I was scoping out the antenna farm on the lesser north end of Gould. OK forget it, I'm freezing, starving and nearing my turn around time.... next trip. Saw plenty of bear poop, mule eared deer and grouse in the woods, along with imposing lenticular clouds which thankfully just blew on by; beautiful fall foilage and crisp mountain air aaaaaaaah, another successful solo. | ||

| Great snowclimb and dayhike. Low hanging, misty clouds made for a great atmosphere and for fun mixed climbing on the summit blocks. | ||

| This capped off a nice 4 day backpacking trip. Just a walk in the park until the class 3 summit rocks. That was a little unnerving for a mere hiker like myself. | ||

| This is one of the easiest peaks I climbed in the Sierras. So, strangely enough, it is also the one that took the most number of attempts to get to the top! Scared off by weather one time and altitude sickness in our party the second time. But the third time was a charm .. fun climb, even though it's a slog. This is a great conditioner climb. | ||

| Day 8 of the 2004 Sierra Challenge, twelve of us started out from Onion Valley, eight made it to the summit of Dragon, ten to the summit of Gould, and three to the summit of Rixford. Safe to say, we pretty much covered the area that day. Trip Report | ||

| Easy climb to the top. We avoided the annoying class 1 slog by climbing the class 2 talus along the ridge. Made things a little more interesting by climbing some of the larger blocks just for fun. To reach the summit you can either climb the easy class 3 along the ridge or the easy class 4 on the west face. We chose the east face because of some potentially unstable rock on the ridge. | ||
