Began climbing with some friends at 5 am to catch the sunrise, and was not disappointed. The overly melodramatic notes in the summit register cracked us up.

Done the Tolcat's trail and west slabs. Don't underestimate the hike. It's steep.

kteichertAlmost broke my marriage  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 6, 2008

Started the hike just a little late in the day. Took my wife with me, and it was an unseasonable hot September day. She planted herself about mid-mountain on the section of steep rock, and wouldn't budge. With nose-ring and pull cord, metaphorically speaking, i dragged her the rest of the way to the top. Luckily, the views and scenery softened her, and it turned out to be well worth it. Until we came down the last 2 miles of exposed microwave type hillside. We baked and I still haven't lived that down. Glad to say that she still enjoys hiking to this day.

TLPfelt the heat  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 19, 2009

I flew in from NJ the day before, after working an overnight shift. I was on a trip to do King's Peak and was meeting up with someone later that day. Before my trip started, back in the spring I was looking for a hike to do in SLC, when I saw this on an atlas page, and lo and behold I came across the page here on SP, which aided me before the hike. I started at dawn to avoid the heat, but still felt it coming down. I wore a brand new pair of boots, which was not a good thing. One reviewer of the boots, said they didn't need to be broken in, well they do! The views of the mountains and SLC were great. I'm glad I did this hike.

I completely underestimated this hike. I had no idea what i was getting into. A friend called me up and asked me to go with her. So I just up and left with what i had on. Some levis and a black shirt. I bought a 20oz water bottle and started hiking. I made the water last to the summit, but the scorching 100 degree day was taking its toll. Half way down I talked a hiker into giving me a sip of water. By then i was severely dehydrated... I'm not sure how i made it the rest of the way, i don't remember even getting back to the car or driving to the 7-11. But I do remember how good the 3 frosty gateraids were!

Took the trail up. Place was a ghost town in the AM, but throngs of people headed up around noon as I was getting back to the TH. Saw a rattlesnake near the summit.

Went with the wife...aka Punchline. I think I need to do this peak when there is alittle snow on the ground. Good to get some vertical in for other peaks later.
Looks as if Joe owns this mountain. :^)

Date Climbed: Jul 18, 2009

We thought we were smart to hit the trail at 7:00am! HA - virtual traffic jam at the top and HOT HOT HOT coming down. Unbelievable as it seemed there were people just heading up at 1:00pm, in the 96degree weather with no sunglasses, no hat/head protection and empty 8 oz water bottles... yikes

I enjoyed the climb, pretty at the top. Sweltering on the way down, ran out of water. Overall pretty but I've heard Phifferhorn is better.

asaking11Climbed via the West Slabs Route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 25, 2009

My buddy from out of town and I started this climb at 2:30am and finished at 1:30pm. We free soloed up the massive west slab route, and then we traversed over the ridge to Mount Olympus and down the main trail. We were almost bitten by two rattlesnakes, and we saw five mountain goats. They are feakin' awesome, I have never seen one before. We decided to do this one on no sleep in the past 30 hours, and by the time we were finished we were dead tired.

Checked another mountain off my list. Arrived at the trailhead at about 8:30AM and had a leisurely stroll up the mountain. Ascended via the usual "Mount Olympus Trail." There was only snow for maybe the last mile of the trail.

Not overly crowded on the way up, but on my way down there were a whole lot of people heading up.

Date Climbed: Oct 29, 2009

A total of 133 times. Once a week is enough for me :) I love this peak in winter. Where else can you get 4000 vertical feet in and usually not need snowshoes?

10/29/09, 4/11/09

4/2/09 I picked this peak to do today because I thought it was going to be easy. Ha ha ha. I didn't bring snowshoes. Not smart. Moogie737, who did, was sinking in a foot and I another foot on top of that, and those were the good sections. I did a lot of crawling. After he ditched his snowshoes on the final steep push, we took turns shoveling the chest high snow out of the way with our hands to enable us to take a step.

03/04/09, 02/27/09, 02/10/09, 12/29/08, 12/23/08, 12/18/08, 12/13/08, 11/17/08, 11/11/08, 11/7/08 plus 120 other times.

17 January ascents, 17 in February, 15 in March, 20 in April, 7 in May, 0 in June, 1 in July, 1 in August, 4 in September, 8 in October, 21 in November, and 22 in December.
