maraudersRoute Climbed: North Face, Eleventh Hour (5.8)  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 12, 2009

What a great climb in stunningly beautiful terrain! It began raining on the last pitch, but dried up just enough to finish the climb. This is one of my favorite places in the Wasatch.

WasatchvoyageThe perfect ridge scramble.  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 2, 2008

This quite possibly has to be the best ridge scramble I've done. Wonderful exposure, and class 3 and 4 scrambling. Life does not get better than this!

A great scramble at the end... and a superb peak to do in the early summer when the bigger and better peaks are still snow covered. The area above lake Blanche is gorgeous and seldom visited.

It is basically a fun climb on a long summer day, a lot of loose rock too

Moogie737From Lake Blanche to the Hanging Canyon  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 1, 2008

7-3-07 With Lana leading Kim and me, we attained the summit in just over 3 hours from the S-curve TH. A fine climb with some interesting ridge scrambling the final 30 minutes. We topped off this adventure by scrambling to the Cottonwood Ridge, then heading east to capture Monte Cristo & Superior before coming back down to Lake Blanche and out. Excellent ridge stuff. 3rd or 4th time at the summit today (7-1-08) with Lana & Brent. Did the same thing as above and enjoyed a nice snow descent back to Lake Blanche. 5th summit 9-8-09 Solo after Blanche Peak with Dave.

Both times via the hanging canyon, south ridge route.
First time was Summer 1996. I think it was a Tuesday, and we didn't see any other humans.
Second time was with my wife and her parents. Saw a couple hikers and a couple climbers (who had done the Eleventh Hour route) descending on our way up. From the peak I ridge-walked to the Cottonwood Ridge for more great views and exercise.

Rocky AlpsRoute Climbed: Lake Blanche
Date Climbed: Sep 23, 2006

There was a surprisingly large amount of snow for this time of year from about 8000 feet up. The hike up was great, with lots of different colors on the trees, and the views of Sundial Peak from Lake Blanche were spectacular. On the way up I saw some cougar tracks, but luckily no cougars. From the lake on up to the top was quite difficult, due to the deep snow and icy rocks, and it actually took me longer to get from Lake Blanche to the top of Sundial than it did for me to get to Lake Blanche from the Mill B trailhead. I decided against ascending the last few hundred yards since I was running late and the rocks were pretty icy and slick.

Great climb. Waterfalls everywhere. Found the climb a little challenging up the west slopes of the ridge.

09/30/2006 with Asher. The snow had mostly all melted and the leaves were spectacular, making a perfect morning hike.

HighCountryEleventh Hour  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 4, 2006

This was a great route. Eleventh Hour starts up the corner on the north/northwest face. We completed the climb in three long pitches. There was a nice variety of face and dihedral climbing. The protection was thin and marginal in places but good pro could be found often enough, I suppose. Beautifuls views from the top, but thunder clouds were coming in. Two 70 meter rope raps of the trees on the east side got us down in time to hike down in a nasty thunderstorm. A natural fouth of July display of lightning and thunder.

Beautiful area. The ridge was a lot more exposed than I had expected but it made for a fun trip. Great summit views. Climbed with Asher and Justin.

maraudersRoute Climbed: Lake Blanche/South Ridge Date Climbed: Aug. 27, 2005  Sucess!

Really beautiful summit. Fun scramble. Hiked to Lake Blanche and spent the night at the lake. Woke at 6am with a black wall of thunderstorm clouds enveloping the area. Made a shelter and waited out the storm. Honestly, it had me scared, but we lived. Storm passed. Traveled through the cliff bands to the valley on the west side of the peak. There's a great Class 4 line up the west face that puts you right at the base of the South Ridge's crux. The ridge was a little narrower than I expected, but it was great fun with exciting exposure. The summit register was pretty cool, goes back 40+ years.

6/21/2005:
A very sketchy solo climb that I shouldn't have done. Did most of "SW of Corner" before bailing right to get to the summit.

The approach hike is long and mostly boring until you reach the lake and then it is beautiful.

8/10/06:
Rope-soloed the "Southwest of Corner" route on Sundial NW Face (same as last year basically). This was a lot less scary with a rope. Mostly 4th and lower 5th class, with two moves at 5.6-5.7. Long day though, 12 hours car to car with a 40 foot rope and some "interesting" rope-work (and climbing all pitches twice).

Nice fun hike. The scrambling was interesting, but it was much better along the Cottonwood Ridge. I'll have to do this peak under snow conditions!
