Climbed this one with an ex, had a good time, although I do remember we went up there without adequate bug spray and getting eaten alive for two days. Nice little summit scramble, neat geology. Climbed it from a camp at the pass above Indigo Lake, ascended Sawtooth Mtn. the day before.

Good visibility, nice easy grade, overall a pretty lazy little saturday stroll up an old cascade volcano. After summiting cowhorn hiked about halfway to sawtooth before turning back. Neat area. Saw quite a few dead trees that had been ripped apart by bears along the trail, didnt see much wildlife though, just a fiesty rock chuck. Road was in great condition, minimal washboarding.

Beautiful day, temp in 60's and sunny. My son and I started from the trailhead at 3:15. Enjoyable hike on PCT, very fun scramble to the top. Went at leisurly pace, summited at 6PM. Took a GPS reading on summit, was 43.24N 122.03W. Elevation was 7631. Views of Mt. Thielsen and Diamond Peak were outstanding, views towards the Sisters and Bachelor were very hazy due to fires in that area. Left summit at 6:30. Once we reached the PCT, stepped up the pace due to not wanting to be eaten alive. Reached trailhead at 8:10. An outstanding hike/scramble. I recommend it highly.

I hatched the plan to climb sawtooth while I was at work on a saturday for the second week in a row. I was not going to be kept from the mountains for two straight weekends. I arrived at the trailhead at windigo pass and proceeded down the trail at 3:15 pm. I hauled ass I wasn"t sure of the difficulty that lay ahead and didn't feel like hiking back in the dark this day. The section of the P.C.T. between windigo and cowhorn is very nice. I would like to come back and Back pack this section. There is some warnings from fellow hikers that tracking down water for drinking is a big pain in the ass. Cowhorn is a nice little mountain. Pretty straight forward route. The scree is a bit of a pain as scree will be. The finish is nice and the views of crescent and summit lakes are good. Diamond peak reigns supreme in these parts. I will have to hike the connecter between cowhorn and sawtooth soon.

Five of us hiked cross country from Windy Lakes

to PCT then up Cowhorn Mtn. Nice weather, but

low broken overcast prevented us from seeing the

major Cascade peaks. View down to Cresent Lake

was great. Nice smallish summit. Fun scramble

over pretty yellow and red volcanic rock.

Somewhat sunny start to the day that turned to cloudy and kind of snowy. Easy hike to the shoulder and light scramble up to the top. Surrounding peaks looked like islands in an ocean of clouds. Was going to continue on to Sawtooth but decided to drive around and do that one separately and see if the weather deteriorated further. Lots of gunshots from hunters in the forests nearby. Cool looking mountain though.
