Date Climbed: Jul 9, 1979

My main goal on this climb was to escape some very persistant and vicious mosquitos along Wallace Creek. (I'd lost my repellent a couple of days earlier.) The climb was easy, fun and relaxing. Descended along the slope just north of ridge. I discovered a ram's horn and an electronic box with the words, "US Army Radio Corps" inscribed on the plastic cover. Below that was the word, "Radiosond". Inside were some circuits and wires. Someone told me this was likely a transponder from a weather balloon. I left it where I found it.

Great 4 day solo trip covering Will, Barnard, Trojan, and Tyndall. Camped in Williamson Bowl all three nights to avoid strong wind at the pass. Dropped down on the east side of the ridge to get from Trojan to Barnard. A nice couple who took the ridge over convinced me to stay on top on the way back. The ridge was enjoyable and glad I took the advice.

Date Climbed: Apr 28, 2007

Glad to tick this one off. Terrible headache and nausea on the plateau--the short outing to Thor Peak the day before evidently wasn't really enough to acclimatize.

The views from Barnard were probably pretty nice, but I was mostly just happy at that point to have reached the summit and not be heading uphill anymore. :-)

Gordon and I trudged up George Creek to summit this great peak. Views were awesome, weather was spectacular, and Gordon could almost reach 14K' with his fingertips. Alas, we were too beaten up to venture over to Trojan so George Creek is in the cards for the future. Pictures

boisedocbeautiful basin  Sucess!

fairly forgettable climb but the basin below was nice. Did it as a quick dayhike while backpacking along the John Muir Trail. The register was fascinating reading dating back to the 1930s.

Date Climbed: Jul 31, 2006

I convinced my wife to join me on this one. This was the third peak that I hit during our Trans-Sierra trip. We were disapointed to find that the summit register was missing and there wasn't even a cairn. I hear that Barnard was one of few peaks that, until recently, had the origional register. Great views of the Whitney region and the Kaweah Peaks.

Date Climbed: May 7, 2006

Four of us Patty, Harry, Susan and Dave descended from Trojan PK and then climbed the NE slope with just about no snow. Then hiked on sand, glissaded and snowshoed back to camp in George Creek. Full day but great way to start the 2006 Sierra Season!

Great route, I climbed this route with Pat Brennen. It was my first time up George Creek, Pats fourth, what an approach. Shades of Williamson Creek. We summitted the pillar but didn't get the actual summit of Mt Barnard

Spnt night on top. Watched rocket take off from Vandenberg AFB, firing all 3 stages and in the AM was buzzed by a jet about 100' off the top while having coffee..

Bailed from P5. Stymied by heavy packs, would recommend ditching the snow/ice gear at the base and rapping the route. We lost a rope, too.

CompletebumRoute Climbed: West Ridge Date Climbed: July 11, 2004  Sucess!

After reaching the Wright Lakes basin from Tyndall I decided to not attempt to climb to the Barnard-Trojan saddle via the west chute since it looked like a loose garbage chute. Instead I crossed the basin and headed up the to the W. Ridge. Gaining the ridge was fun cl. 3. Great view from the top.

Dave KRoute Climbed: Southwest Slopes Date Climbed: August 2001  Sucess!

We began our climb late in the afternoon--3 p.m.--from Wallace Basin. Had a great hike to the summit but had to hike back cross-country in the dark on a different route, which was challenging. Still, we had a great time!
