| Climbed in Feb. 1996 with James Harrison of Albuquerque, NM as an overnight trip. When we left the Santa Fe Ski basin parking lot, the biggest Blizzard to hit this area in a long time began raging, so we quickly lost all visibility. By the time we began the traverse along the South Ridge of Lake Peak, we could see only 10' in front of us. From the Summit of Penitente Peak we could see only a whiteout, and we ended up camping amongst the trees along the ridge below the summit. Despite all the snow, we had a great trip. The sun came out the next morning, but we had to shoe through 3' of new snow, which was kind of unnerving at times. Still, we had a blast! |
