jpmossyfun place to fool around and explore  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 15, 2006

scrambled around the various canyons and rocks while my parents did the loop drive. under the shadow of an approaching monsoon rain the whole time. cool place, easy to find "wilderness" and solitude 5 minutes away from a slew of tourists

A fun tourist (read: shooting photos) scramble around the Calico Hills. Climbed a gully near the top, but was running out of daylight and left.

I've been on top of every lump out there by a wide variety of routes, never more than class 4. It's a 15-minute drive from my house.

I've climbed all over these hills over the years. Today some friends and I visited Calico Tank. Always a fun time out there.

sergioMy first 5.10D  Sucess!

I wouldn't usually post about a sport climb here on SP, but yesterday I succeeded in my first 5.10D TR at the Black Corridor after "warming up" with a 5.7 lead and a couple of 5.10B on TR. A major personal accomplishment for a mediocre rock climber like me!!

Decided to get out of vegas for an afternoon. It was some fun scrambling to get to the top of the calico hills. It was about 105 degrees out si that was the only downfall but really cool area, definately wanna do some more hikin/climbin around Red Rocks.

Did Calico Tanks as part of a weekend Trip to Vegas. After that visit - we decided that we must return to do more hiking in Red Rocks! Awesome area.

This place was the only thing that I found likeable about Las Vegas. I can't wait to go back.

Dave DalyRoute Climbed: Caliban (5.8+) Date Climbed: 07 Jan 06  Sucess!

As the guide book describes, it a bit contrived with lousy fixed pro (ground fall potential). I lead this route back in 1998 and remember getting psyched out on it but finishing it anyway. Still felt that way when Deb and I did it. Typically, Red Rocks ratings are soft. But this one I would give a solid 5.9....and fairly sustained on the bottom section (mostly technical).

Dave and I did a couple of routes on this rock, most interesting was a burly 5.8+ with not much protection. Love that sandstone!

SusanMRoute Climbed: Scramble Date Climbed: October 2004  Sucess!

My long time hiking buddy brought some co-workers for a big group to scramble and climb. A lot of fun because you can play it by ear in this area. A good introductory for those new to climbing.

Enjoyed a week of great climbing in Red Rocks. Physical Graffiti was a good starter after two hours of sleep following a 16-hr drive! A good route with some nice views.

rpiontekRoute Climbed: Physical Graffiti Date Climbed: January 23, 2005  Sucess!

I really enjoyed the climbing on the second pitch. It's a long one, though, so make sure you save some gear for the top. The climbing eases after the first 40 feet or so, but still very enjoyable.
