M and N DenyerRoute Climbed: Great Red Book Date Climbed: December 27, 2004  Sucess!

Enjoyed this fun route that is comprised of a mixture of just about every type of climbing--face, lie back, slab. We had the route to ourselves. As we were walking back to the car, we saw plenty of other climbers on the countless single pitch sport routes in the area, but no one on Great Red Book.

November 23, 2004: The Great Red Book. Another short gem in Calico Hills! Fun, varied climbing mostly trad-protected (few bolts) with some minor runouts on easier ground. Go there early or go there late to avoid waiting in line. We got lucky as there were no people when we got there....3 or 4 parties were lined up by the time we descended in the afternoon. This is another good rest day type climb - up and down in time for brunch and beer :)

November 30, 2002: Physical Graffiti. A very fun climb to do if you need a rest day from long multi pitch routes at Red Rocks. If this climb were located at say Smith Rock, it would be a 4-star route. The route takes about 15 minutes to approach and about an hour to climb. Pitch two is more fun offering some clean crack climbing and some face climbing.

Every chance I get I go up to Red Rock Valley and try a different way up to the top of the Calico Hills. This is a great spot to get away for a few hours and usually 10 or 12 degrees cooler than Vegas.

Thoroughly enjoyed this scenic area. We were short on time and plan on returning to do Mescalito via the Class 3 route some day. Awesome!

This 2 pitch route up the large dihedral above the Black Corridor is a classic fun climb.

darinchadwickRoute Climbed: Panty Wall, Black Corridor, Magic Bus, Moderate Mecca, Ultraman Wall Date Climbed: Spring Break 2001, 2002, 2006.

Of these areas I've climbed in, the only one I wouldn't recommend would be Moderate Mecca. It's just nasty there. Magic Bus, Ultraman, and Panty Wall get lots of sunshine, good when the weather is snotty for the longer canyon climbs in Red Rocks.
