WoundedKneeFrom Deep Gap  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 20, 2009

A nice gentle incline from Deep Gap. I agree with the previous poster - too many fire rings pockmark the summit area. Hopefully future campers will stick to existing sites to reduce impact.

AirborneBuffAT Section Hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 28, 2009

Part of a section hike from Dick's Creek Gap, GA to Wallace Gap, NC. So I guess it took me 2 days and 18 miles to summit in a driving rain. 40 degrees, rain and 30 mph wind greeted me to NC.

2nd time up. A very beautiful mountain and wilderness, but the camping area near the top has been way overused.

Date Climbed: Apr 7, 2000

Started the day at Standing Indian Shelter, so I guess you could say it took me two days to make the ascent.

Date Climbed: Apr 8, 2006

Huffed & puffed up to summit on the morning of 4/8/2006. Rained & stormed all night in tent city just below the mountain's shelter on the AT. Climbed w/ my friend Clay. We did the 25 mile loop from Kimsey Creek Trail to Long Branch Trail.

Nice mountain to do loop day hikes on. Summit has partial views of N GA mountains through the heath bald. Highest, southernmost 5,000'er in SE US.

Mike NRoute Climbed: AT southbound Date Climbed: April 2005  Sucess!

Stay at Carter's Gap. Do AT southbound and you can do a loop including Standing Indian. Views are great. Each day is about 13 miles with weight. Have fun.

TexasClimberRoute Climbed: Standard Appalachian Trail Route Date Climbed: 1992-1995 Sometime Then?  Sucess!

I climbed this while in Boy Scouts Troop 10 as a child living in Macon, GA. I couldn't tell you the actual date of my summit. Pictures? I might have to dig for awhile! I usually try to keep my summits in order her at SP but looks like I have to add this one since I stood atop of it.

Snowing, ice, freezing rain and in a white out, but a great hike nonetheless.
