JonodoFrom Highland Lakes  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 12, 2009

Climbed Disaster after hitting Arnot Peak, starting from Highland Lakes. We ascended from Paradise Valley and returned via the PCT. Round trip the hike was something like 18 miles. Beautiful area. The views of the Sonora Pass area are great. Hiked with Bryangast.

edevartMorning Summit  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 7, 2008

Started at sunset and decided to pitch the hammock in the meadows near the intersection with the climber's trail. The meadows were very lush and wet this early in the season. Much of the climber's trail was covered in snowdrifts so I had trouble at times finding the route. Almost walked into a big brown black bear on the way down. Good stuff.

Nice hike for the most part. Lots of wildlife. Found the climbers' trail easily.

Michael GraupeWest Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 8, 2007

After climbing Sonora Pk. and Stanislaus Pk. in the morning, this hike turned out to be thougher than expected. First I missed the faint use trail completely and ended up climbing Pt.9251 from the west. Saw a bear on this steep slope. Then climbed the West Ridge from there. On the descent I managed to find the use trail just to lose it a few minutes later and ended up descending a steep gully >1000ft straight down to the main trail.

steve_hiebertDistaster Peak Under Gunfire  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 24, 2006

Climbed with my friends Bruce and Dee. I think we took the regular route. There was a lot of gunfire near the road from the hunters. I also saw a bear on the way up.

Took advantage of SR108 being open early this year for one weekend. Clark road -> Disaster Ck. -> Paradise Valley -> Summit, down via W side.

Mine was the first entry in the register this year. I guess Bob's and Dan's faint praise for this peak has been keeping people away...

I found the trails in this area to be confusing--many are not shown on the map, and it's not always clear whether they're poor trails or good use trails in places.

Came back almost a year later to pad my SPS stats for the year. Other slogs like Stanislaus and Leavitt were much more enjoyable the second time around, but Disaster was as cruddy as I'd remembered. I think that second climb was my last visit to this peak.

Bob BurdRoute Climbed: West Ridge Date Climbed: Aug 15, 2002  Sucess!

A nice afternoon hike. Only problems were a bit of route-finding (some maps show a trail heading to the southwest side, but it's hard to find and faint in places) and the barbed wire fence going up on the West Ridge. There's actually a place called Paradise Valley just to the north that is a Wilderness cow pasture - how nice. Cow patties litter most of the slopes around this peak. Trip Report

keemaRoute Climbed: Soutwest side Date Climbed: July 28, 2001 & June 8, 2003

2001camped with extended family along Clark Fork. On the climb met one other person on the summit and saw two other people along the trail. I wasted about an hour looking for the climbers trail too far south. A hot dusty trip.

2003 was a muddy trip. Again wasted about an hour looking for the climbers trail. Found it and then lost it again in patches of snow, mud and blow down. Spent most of the trip cross country. On the descent lost the trail and picked up Disaster Creek trail about a quarter mile north the trail junction. Saw nobody else the entire day. Interesting trips. Pretty easy navigation.
