colinpencea "whale" of a day!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 22, 2009

I climbed via Gibson Lake with some of the "usual suspects", and for some reason this mountain was tougher for me than it should have been.

Climbing date is approximate

I was joined by my wife and two dogs. We started at Jefferson Lake and gained Glacier's S Ridge just above the lake. The hiking was nice and gentle with lots of tundra hiking. We tagged glacier and hiked on to Whale. We finished by going over the 2 ranked 12ers to the South and descended steeply to the Lake.

Date Climbed: May 3, 2008

Did a nice loop starting at the winter closure on the road to Jefferson Lake @ 9900 ft. We picked up the 2 ranked 12ers s.e. of Whale en route. Nice, mellow ridge on gentle tundra. We made a counter-clockwise loop by continuing to Glacier Peak and then back down to the lake. It was a 16 mile day, but felt pretty easy as the ridges were scoured.

I was camped with my father up near Gibson Lake. Decided we wanted to climb it and did. Great views from the top. A great 13er.

A nice hike from Jefferson Lake and you get two ranked 12ers too. Wouldn't be fun in the wind, but conditions for me were great.

It was a pleasant morning outing. This is a nice mellow hike. Numerous crickets were singing the entire time I was on the east slope which I've never encountered before. Being as remote as it is I had the valley to myself.

A nice snow climb, kicking steps up the ideal conditions. The glissades down were a nice bonus.

Excellent fall hike. The aspen up Hall River Valley are of Kenosha Pass proportions. This is mellow terrain and The views are utterly worthwhile. Climbed with my dog Sopris.

Ditto on the bug spray or just wear long sleeves and pants. Barb also thought she saw a tick in the area. Beautiful hike and a great day. The lake is a nice spot to take an afternoon break.

Beautiful hike from beginning to end. Bring bug spray - the first couple of miles are in the trees next to a stream.

Finally climbed this obscure 13er after two years of postponing this wonderful trip. The fires closed the Pike National Forest down last year. This is a beautiful area and the mountain offers a fabulous view, a well as many route possibilities ranging from Class 1 to Class 3. Highly recommended. It is a popular area. Arrive early and bring your 4WD.

This is a beautiful climb, and moderate for the most part. Half of a day is all that is needed for this hike. Great fun!
