BombchaserIndian Canyon Route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 22, 2009

This ascent was easier than I thought it would be. The route consists of a scattered goat trail marked by small stacks of rocks here and there. There is some rock scrmabling and some hands on stuff depending on where you traverse. The wind was blowing hard and right after I descending the winds were at around 50 mph. The ascent took 2.44 hours and was 3.8 miles in length.

Date Climbed: Feb 22, 2009

After some initial route-finding issues (and seeing a Desert Rosy Boa snake in the process), we found the main trail and followed this steep track up to the summit area. Walked around to all four points and the views were incredible. Great hike.

We started off to the right and explored a few side canyons before making our way to the trail. Some of the best views I've seen in AZ from the top.

This one turned out pretty well. The temps were actually in the 60s and it was cloudy with even a few raindrops. The route turned out to be fairly easy and while I lost the bootpath here and there, it was a piece of cake to stick to the general route.

Beautiful day - weather was perfect and it was very clear. Could see mountains in Mexico. Route finding was easy with the exception of finding the trail out of the wash.

A little late in the season on our first (of 3) ascent of this
nice peak. We took Indian Canyon route, but had car
parked at the mouth of Kofa Queen Canyon, and were a bit
parched by the end of the hike. Cranked AC to max, and headed
to Quartzite for a super slushee.

weeds19Perfect early spring hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 11, 2008

The early spring season is probably about the perfect time to climb this peak, and happened to be passing through the area in March so I thought I'd give it a go. The route finding was surprisingly straight-forward and before I knew it I was making the short stroll over to the actual summit. The trail is now in pretty decent shape and isn't bad at all to follow. My time up was 70 min and time down was 60 min. Great morning hike while the air was still cool!

A nice hike - took the use trail all the way until about 1/4 mile from the summit where I lost it but the summit was easy to find.

Straight up Palm Canyon and up a few pitches of easy-to-moderate fifth class on surprisingly good (though still not TOO good) rock. Then a little stroll to the summit. It was really hot, even in the spring. Watch for bighorns!

With about 30-40 climbers of the Desert Peaks Section. First time here; magnificent! Great lead by George, and all. Castle Dome the next day, then Little Picacho. Best DPS trip up to then.

Great day with Scott (maintainer of this page), Bill J. and Rick H. I had no route finding problems since both Scott and Rick knew the way.

The scenery was outstanding and a real surprise as it is a fantastic area. The road to the TH is a toughie and should only be attempted by high clearance vehicles. Thanks to Scott and Rick for their great guide work and to Bill for always being a great hiking companion. We were treated to a great flower show as we descended but be sure to wear stout gloves.

After we finished hiking with some others in this area Jay and I made this climb, since we were the only ones of our group who hadn't bagged this one. Took us a long time going up because we lost the trail, then came down much quicker once we did find the trail to follow. Boy, were we way off!

asmrzRoute Climbed: Rusty Bailey route Date Climbed: March 22, 2005  Sucess!

Penelope May and I spent 4 wonderful days in the Arizona desert photographing the incredible carpets of wildflowers, roaming the desert and climbing Signal Peak from Palm Canyon via the Rusty Bailey route. It took us 9 hours to get up the route and down, back to our car. Penelope has been on this route before in 2000, got rained off from the friction pitch at the headwall. This time she led both pitches in clear, warm weather. The summit views are awesome. Kofa Pinnacles, Castle Dome Mountains, desert ridge lines south to Mexico and west to California, the wast expanse of desert landscape, what a wonderful place.

Three ascents: Dec 1999, Feb 2003 and April 2005. Not the easiest peak to climb but after three visits I think I have the route mostly memorized :). My reports
