| Final peak of a quad which also included Kings, South Kings, and Gunsight Peak. The good weather finally came to an end with a descent that included snow, rain, and lightning. My original plan was to descend the long gradual ridge to the north, but the lighting encouraged me to make a very hasty descent to the west. | |

| Had the privilege to witness Dean and Dennis complete hiking Utah’s counties peaks when we were on top. Made me wonder how long it’s going to take me to complete it myself. The hike up from dollar was awesome just when u thought you could see the peak another one would appear all the way up. | |

| Hiked in to Dollar Lake with the intent to climb Kings Peak the next day. Got to camp around 5 pm and decided to go up Gilbert. Ended up being a MUCH nicer experience than Kings. Didn't see another person, watched the sunset from the summit before heading back to camp for the night. Not a very spectacular mountain but awesome experience. | |

| We day hiked Gilbert up Henry's Fork. It was a crisp 25 degrees at the trailhead and much colder up higher. Winter is just about here. We saw plenty of mountain lion tracks just above Dollar Lake. | |

| For labor day 2007, I was sitting at home (SLC) at 8:30am in the morning feeling pretty lazy. Kicking myself, I got in the car at 9am and drove to Henry's Fork to climb Gilbert and Gunsight. By the time I drove past Park City, it was raining. When driving the approach gravel road from WY back into UT, it was pouring, all the way to the trailhead. Well, I made it this far. Started out at noon in the pouring rain to see how far I could get. Passed a hundred or more people escaping the bad weather, while I was heading further into it. Diligence paid off, as it cleared up by the time I got to Dollar Lake. I was soaked, but the sun's rays started to dry me off. Climbed Gilbert and Gunsight, and back to the car after eight hours of slogging and running. | |

| I left Sawmill Lake at 7:45 and hiked up the ridge just east of Dollar lake to arrive on top at 11:00. I saw a mountain goat looking down on me at one point as I neared the top. This was my 9th county highpoint in Utah. An hour and a half after this one, I topped out on Gunsight Peak to get another 13er. | |

| Long loop hike up Henry's Fork and down West Fork of Beaver Creek (above which Gilbert rises quite impressively). For the mountain itself, we went up the north ridge and down the east ridge. Doing that in one day, plus with one member of the party having gotten a bit of altitude sickness, and another with runner's knee issues, made for a very long (19-hour) trip involving GPS navigation in the dark (since we didn't bring bivy gear). For my part, the experience was well worth the exhausting length (I am not as tough as some SPers!). It was my first time in the eastern Uintas, and my first 13-er (sad to say, it has taken me far too long to get around to that). These firsts are of many more to come, I hope. The weather threatened to rain, but instead only provided cool weather and beautiful lighting. More in my trip report. | |

| We missed Gilbert on our trip to Kings two year ago, so we made a side trip to Gilbert on a 4 day backpacking trip we took through some beautiful country in the Uintas. We enjoyed every minute of the trip! | |

| My last county highpoint needed to complete all of Utah's county highpoints was a special experience since I co completed the state with Dennis Poulin. Three neat people waited on the summit to congratulate us (Kirt, Jason and Wendy) as we topped out and that made it extra special. We met Terry Sandler (sp?), a fellow from SLC and his friend Dan as we descended. Terry was also going to finish the state with a summit of Gilbert. Congrat's to Terry. We had a great day and broke camp and hiked out afterwards. BTW, we had done Kings the day before. | |

| My friends an I climbed Gilbert peak years ago. We were on a fishing trip and we wanted to climb up and see what was around, we left Dollar lake early in the morning. When we got to the top of the first ridge we could see the summit( did not know what it was at the time) it did not seem too far so we went for it. It was a lot longer than we thought, because the route was mostly bolders and large rocks. we made it to the top and could see down to the south, the trail to Kings peak which some of our friends had left to go up the same morning. We could see people but they were much too small to know who it was. We left for camp and had a few snowball fights on the way back, it was a great day we made it back before nightfall. I saw in the other log it took them 2 days ????? (he must have been on all fours ! ) or walking real slow. I would like to do it again someday, but I want to focus on a couple of other peaks first. | My 2nd time on Gilbert. A little windy, mostly clear skies- we saw no others this day until after traversing to Gunsight Peak (cool cairn!), then down to Gunsight pass- surprise surprise. Weather turned sour in a hurry, and we had a relaxing rest of the day after bailing at the pass. | |

| Ben and I camped 1/4 mile west of Dollar Lake after hiking from the CG at Henrys Fork. Navigating through the marshy area northwest of Dollar Lake, in the near dark, is something I don't recommend. The next morning we left around 9:15 and arrived at the summit at 11:30. The wind was howling out of the west at 40-50 mph and nearly blew us over several times. Couldn't find the summit register in the rock wind shelter because of snow almost a foot deep! We continued to Gunsight Peak (one hour exactly) and descended to Gunsight Pass via the southern face of Gunsight Peak. There it snowed on us for about 10 minutes before letting up. We returned to our camp by 2:30 p.m. It wouldn't have been out of the question to bag Dome Peak, but the weather was too iffy. | |

| This was one of my most memorable trips ever. Craig and I started at Henry's Fork around 2:00 in the afternoon. We made good time and we stopped for a break at a small lake past Dollar. After some food and brew, we hiked up a chute on the West side. There was a lot of loose rock, but it was not difficult. We reached the top of the chute and it was getting dark and we coud see a storm moving in. We found s small depression in the boulders and hunkered down in the Bivy sacks to wait out the storm. It was getting dark and we decided to stay there for the night. The storm moved in and we witnessed nature at her best throwing bolt after bolt of lightning on the high peaks. I have never seen so much lightning in one place. We were getting nervous, but we had no place to go. We then got blasted with rain, sleet, hail and snow for the next couple of hours. My bivy filled up with snow/hail, as I left the an opening to keep some air flowing (mistake) I was wet and cold and the night was just starting. At about 3:00 AM we decided to go for the summit so we could warm up. We headed up with full packs and dropped them at the saddle. We reached the summit at about 5:00 AM. It was windy and cold and we could see the sun starting to come up. We headed back down and picked up the packs. After a brief rest we were off to Gunsight peak. We took the full packs and reached the summit about 8:00 AM. The views were great I was worried about the descent on the South side. There was a lot of loose rock and scree. We started the descent and were going to head over to West Gunsight and Kings, but the descent wiped me out, so I told Craig to meet me at Anderson Pass. Craig climbed West GS, Kings and we met up and set up camp. We were both tired and considered climbing more peaks the next day, but we got pounded by another storm that lasted most of the night and in the morning we decided that we were done, as the mountain gods were not with us. We spent the morning trying to dry out and then we hiked back to Henry's Fork and found a ride back to civilization, as our ride was not supposed to pick us up for a few more days. | |
