| 4/20/2012 Warm, windy, and socked in. 4/7/2012 Skied via Joulious creek. I was wondering why it seemed harder than I remembered it and then I noticed that one of my kicker skins was missing. I toughed it out and found the skin on the way back. Grr. 4/16/2011 WMC ski trip led by Mike Berry. It was very windy and the summit was mostly socked in. 3/10/2011 Skied via Joulious Creek to about a mile of the summit and had to boot the rest because it was so rocky. The wind was extreme on the top but fortunately it was a warm day. Most of the way was fine, but there were times when I was sinking in to my knees with the skis on. 9 hrs up and 5 down, 21 miles RT. The first 2.8 miles were broken, but then I was on my own. 7/1/2010 Started from the Hole-in-Rock Road west of Bullocks Park along some long abandoned logging roads. Bushwhacked to Joulious Park and then followed the trail along Julious Creek as best as I could to treeline. Then took off for the summit. Most of the time the weather was nice but some of the time it was down right nasty. It was so windy and hailing so hard that it felt like someone was shooting at me with a BB gun at the rate of 100 BB's per second. 5/25/2010 Skied to the top with Mike Berry via Joulious Creek. We were able to drive all of the way to Joulious Creek, but there was a price to pay in that the start was a mix of bare ground and snow which was grueling on the way back, but other than that the trip was perfect. 5:45 to the top, :30 on top, and 3:10 back to the car for a RT time of 9:25. The weather was stellar and we had great views with no haze whatsoever. 5/14/2010 Skied 20 miles RT via Joulious Creek, breaking trail the whole way. I had hoped to be able to drive further, but only made it .8 miles from the winter parking area. At the beginning of the day I was worried all the snow on the road would melt and I'd be walking 2.5 miles in ankle deep mud back to the car. Somewhere along the way after several hours of heavy snow that fear changed to OMG what if I can't get the car out? The weather started out nice, but Gilbert was socked in and it snowed the whole way back to the car. There's no way I could have done this trip without the use of a GPS. Above treeline, sometimes the visibility was marginal, but sometimes it was so bad I couldn't tell which way the ground was sloping. The first 3/4 mile or so along Joulious Creek isn't too pleasant because it is steep and the trees are closely spaced, but after that it is a ski tourer's delight. Snow conditions were perfect and there was not a speck of wind. I was able to keep the skis on all of the way to the top. 7:50 up and 12:15 RT. 9/16/2000 Day trip from Henrys Fork TH with MM. Also did E Gilbert (12851). | ||

| My dog and I hit Gilbert Peak as a warm up for our Kings hike the following morning. I wanted to hit Gunsight while I was up there, but fading light and deteriorating weather conditions made me reconsider. | ||

| Climbed from Dollar Lake. Very pleasant hike from Dollar Lake. Traversed too far and ended up on the Gilbert/Gunsight saddle. Final 400 feet was a bit of a talus slog. Could not do Gunsight due to diminishing light. Was able to see 2 lone mountain goats near the summit | ||

| Ascent took us about 2.5 hours from Dollar Lake; biggest problems were the fierce, cold wind and rain/hail. The route shown by grandwazoo is pleasant most of the way, with a vegetated table land that provides easy walking (compared to Kings). A couple of us chose to descend a loose, slippery gully on the W side. | ||

| This is the one of the first real peaks I ever climbed as part of a solo backpacking trip when I was 16. I grew hiking in the Uintas and learned to love the outdoors here. From where I grew up in Lyman Wyoming Gilbert Peak looks like the biggest in the range. | ||

| Final peak of a quad which also included Kings, South Kings, and Gunsight Peak. The good weather finally came to an end with a descent that included snow, rain, and lightning. My original plan was to descend the long gradual ridge to the north, but the lighting encouraged me to make a very hasty descent to the west. | ||

| Had the privilege to witness Dean and Dennis complete hiking Utah’s counties peaks when we were on top. Made me wonder how long it’s going to take me to complete it myself. The hike up from dollar was awesome just when u thought you could see the peak another one would appear all the way up. | ||

| dirth | Much needed solitude ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 28, 2009 | |
| Hiked in to Dollar Lake with the intent to climb Kings Peak the next day. Got to camp around 5 pm and decided to go up Gilbert. Ended up being a MUCH nicer experience than Kings. Didn't see another person, watched the sunset from the summit before heading back to camp for the night. Not a very spectacular mountain but awesome experience. | ||

| We day hiked Gilbert up Henry's Fork. It was a crisp 25 degrees at the trailhead and much colder up higher. Winter is just about here. We saw plenty of mountain lion tracks just above Dollar Lake. | ||

| utclimber | Labor Day ![]() Date Climbed: Sep 3, 2007 | |
| For Labor Day 2007, visiting the Uintas was a late decision, where I left SLC at 8:30am. The weather initially was pretty bad, and was pouring at the trailhead, followed by light rain until Dollar Lake. After that, it cleared up, and allowed a dry ascent of Gilbert and Gunsight. Car to car took around 8 hours. | ||

| I left Sawmill Lake at 7:45 and hiked up the ridge just east of Dollar lake to arrive on top at 11:00. I saw a mountain goat looking down on me at one point as I neared the top. This was my 9th county highpoint in Utah. An hour and a half after this one, I topped out on Gunsight Peak to get another 13er. | ||
