Date Climbed: Jul 20, 2009

The trail was... well there was no trail!
Bushwacking through the forest and climbing over fallen trees, slipping on mud. Finnaly the tree-line! Oh, a talus field!
Trekking through the rocks, with small avalanches falling behind you. The summit was loose, but the views... were amazing.
This hike is hermit (no one there) it is tough, but it is worth it! An experience to remember! Trailhead- 7:20 a.m. -Summited at around 11:20 a.m. back at 2:00 p.m.
Have fun!

Awesome mountain, climbed via the southwest ridge description by Aaron Johnson. This great route description made an early morning summit possible. The terrain is greatly varied making this short ascent extremely refreshing. The views of neighboring 14ers--wetterhorn and uncompahgre were inspiring!

Precipice is a very unique, fascinating peak. Despite its complexity, it can be climbed quite easily and quickly and makes a good part-day hike when the long drive home lies ahead. In terms of "bang for your buck", this peaks ranks among the best.

climbed precipice from the west to cap a successful weekend in the cimarrons. this mountain is undescriable with tons of spires and the east face giving preipice an one-of-a-kind feel.

jamie

p.s. uncompahgre looks mammoth from this angle, even more than from other summits!

We were treated to a view of about a dozen bighorn sheep on the ascent.

What an amazing peak this is! Erin and I climbed it in the afternoon after the weather had settled for the day. Precipice's east face is astonishing!! This was our first summit after our marriage on the 13th.

Forgot directions which was a mistake. Created own route that I would not reccomend to anyone. Found trail near top and decended standard trail. Peak is decieving from Wetterhorn trail head. Peak has very cool views of all the nearby mountain ranges. Some really crappy rock in places. If you are starting from Wetterhorn basin trail head go to the grassy slopes and ridge line.

It is nice to climb a mountain and not see any other people all day. What a great mountain too. There isn't too much a trail so you have to do some route finding which is fun as well.

Very intriguing mountain, as expected. The route was more fun and complex than anticipated. Went up the south side of the Amphitheater and came down the north side, where we encountered much loose rock. The summit was awesome and the view was amazing, as expected! We also really enjoyed the solitude. We saw no one on the mountain. Hoodoos and bizarre rock formations everywhere! This mountain has it all! One of my favorite San Juan Peaks.
