Date Climbed: Oct 9, 2009

Went up the Beaver Basin approach. Cold and windy on the ridge and summit, however clear. Traversed the ridge to Mann's also.

Drove up and there was a bear bate station right where we planed to camp. Explored around finding the old mines and cabins. The hike to the peak was easy the hard part was driving in.

KirtDavisBear Bait, just not us.  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 5, 2009

There was a bear bait station in Beaver Basin. Had to find a place to set up camp that wasn't too close.

Nice day to summit, up and back in three hours.

Found a cabin and some mines in the area.

seth@LOKIlighting strikes on La Sal  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 25, 2009

weather was reported to be better. by 10 AM lightning was smacking within 100 feet of us first on La Sal Peak then on the steep west slope of Waas as we tried to stay low back to Beaver Basin. I need to go back to Castle Peak for a a better weather view. Ideally on skis... anyone in for April 20, 2010?

Climbed this in beautiful weather. It is amazing how you can look down at the canyons and rock towers in Castle Valley and they look so diminutive. Then when you drive down to them on your way out, they look so majestic and inaccessible.

Moogie737From Beaver Basin "road" at 9,650'  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 30, 2008

Brent & I drove a Honda Pilot as far as I figured was reasonable and hiked the rest of the way up. Fall colors were astonishingly beautiful. We appreciated the switchbacks in the talus leading to the Waas summit from the saddle. I'll add some details in a brief trip report as soon as I can. What views from the summit!

rharrisWaas from Beaver Basin  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 31, 2008

We drove up the Beaver Basin road. It is a very rough road, 4WD high clearance required. We parked a quarter mile or so past some rusty mechanical debris, where the road makes two switchbacks in a row. The hike from there is pretty straightforward, up to the saddle between Waas and Green, with a very nice and helpful use trail all the way from the saddle to the summit. It was a foggy, misty day, without any views from the summit. We found no trail register but found both benchmarks, about 5 feet apart from each other. It took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes round trip.

We drove as far as the snow would allow into Beaver Basin and camped the night before climbing with some friends. Unfortunately we forgot our sunglasses and out eyes paid for as we drove back to Ogden the next day. A fun climb in the snow!

Summitted with a friend via Beaver Basin. The usual outstanding La Sal views. Waas is especially impressive from the summits of neighboring Castle and La Sal peaks.

Great climb. Still some patches of snow. The last 3 miles of road was brutal.

Camped near Dan's Lake and drove our vehicles up to the end of the road (nasty 4WD). A snow cornice remained at the saddle but could be worked around on its eastern end. A great viewpoint for viewing the rest of the La Sals and looking down into the Canyonlands and Arches areas. I was accompanied by my son in law Andrew Davis and Dennis Poulin

I had failed again on this one in July, because I didn't bring an adequate map and chose to mix two routes that I wasn't a bit familiar with.

This time, I biked up Beaver Basin, and parked near some rusty mechanical debris around 10,500 feet. The hike up was simple and direct up to the saddle to the SW of Waas. I met a guy that I had talked with on the previous visit to Waas earlier in the season. I had a nap at the summit, and awoke to hundreds of crows (or some other large black birds) circling the mountain. UH Oh...The ride down was terrific. The next best thing to a hot-tub after a long ride/hike is a ride down that doesn't require pedaling. Go figure.
