| loved the church/cemetery "trailhead", including the two outhouses...no chance to get lost on the .8 mile "trek" up to the summit---lots of info posted. Fun little evening jaunt....too bad there isn't a nice little guest house nearby! Had to drive to Shreveport for the evening. | ||

| Had to wait out a steady rainfall with some lightning before I was finally able to make a dash for the summit. Slogged through some mud (in my new running shoes :( It seems that they've added a little to the summit since the photos I had seen in Wingers book. Nice views of N. Louisiana. Surprising to see rolling hills in Lousiana. Pretty countryside by Driskill Mt. | ||

| #35 for me, number 34 for my daughter Vanessa, and the last of the SHPs under 1600 feet for the two of us to visit. With this hike, we completed all SHPs east of the Mississippi except Virginia, which I did not climb until May, 2009, on the final push for the last of my 49 state high points. | ||

| Pretty glad I did this one in January. I hiked up in the morning and it was still 65 degrees. I can't imagine what it would be like in July or August. | ||

| On Dec 6, 2008 my family successfully completed our first high point. We drove in from Barksdale AFB, LA and made our way to Driskill Mountain. It might have been only 535 feet, but it was a victory to us. Photos: http://mckinney.smugmug.com/gallery/6757501_6zidv/1/431544804_T7Fdu | ||

| Just followed the newly bladed trail/road to the high point. Was a warm day and no one around. The road/trail was a bit confusing, just follow J.Edgar Hoover, just keep going right. | ||

| It was 95 degrees, and so humid it felt like you could cut into the air with a spoon. It was a nice and quiet short hike to the top, and the owners did a great job throwing little bits of history about the property on the walk up. | ||

| Part of the fun with this highpoint is finding it and enjoying the solitude of the area. I saw no one else from the time I left the little town nearby until I summited it. I hiked up the mountain in the late afternoon in very comfortable sunny skies. The summit was very well maintained and the view from just a bit down the path was nice. Overall, Driskill Mt. was worth the trip. Then I lost my ass at the roulette wheel in Shreveport. Darn! | ||

| The weather was perfect for my 4 month old son's first road trip and first highpoint. My wife and I took the dogs along as well and enjoyed this short family hike despite the logging noises emanating from across the road. | ||

| THAT GUMBO MUD IS REALLY HARD TO SHED. THE RAIN STOPPED LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO DO THE SUMMIT AND RETREAT BACK TO THE CAR WHERE I IMMEDIATELY BAGGED MY BOOTS IN A PLASTIC SACK | ||

| It was a nice morning, but the first half of the dirt road/ path to the summit was a mudpit because it rained the night before . That red clay mud gets everywhere, and sticks like glue!!! The State Highpoint was worth the walk (and the mud), and the false summits were also enjoyable jaunts. | ||

| Hiked the .6 mile trail to the summit and said a little prayer for my father-in-law. Should have brought my camera, it was a nice leg stretcher and a new sign by the church, summit kiosk and benches, and a good cleared view over to Jordan Mountain all apparently done in 2006. Looked like the benches were brand new. Summit cairn was still there and I added a rock to it. Nice little stop, Highpoint #6. | ||
