couchclimberscramble route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 30, 2006

I thought this hike is steep as lady mac and grotto. There was a nice trail all the way up through the trees and then the normal rubble over slabs on sections up the ridge. It was a sunny day but kind of windy at the top. Very neat to see climbers climbing up the steep face Ha ling peak while scramblers went up the back side. Very nice views from above and a good view of the notches on Big Sister as well.

This is mostly a steep hike, but it is a very nice one with great views of two valleys. You can also thumb your nose down at the masses that climb little Ha Ling Peak beside you. The scramble part I think is in coming down from the summit, as the ridge narrows to a few feet and the loose pebbles underfoot make you feel as though you could easily slide off the edge.

Easy scramble with quite a it of bush but much flagging if you follow Alan Kane's description. Was foggy all the way up. At the summit got pelted with hail seemingly coming up the mountain froim the Canmore side. As soon as we descended about 30m, the sun came out and the parties on the mountain after us saw perfect weather. Picked up a straggler on the way down and escorted her back to the parking lot.

Park at Goat Creek and walk down the reservoir about 15 minutes or until you have the peak sighted. An Osprey circled above me, almost begging, on the way out. I ran head on into a lone sheep up high, kind of a Mexican standoff. Very cool character. We gave each other a little room and passed. Saw some very interesting caves and more sheep east of the ravine.

This scramble could be classified as easy, except for route finding perhaps. I enjoyed free climbing firm challenging rock bands, but these could be avoided traversing further east if one wanted. There is a neat ridge at the top and good views abound, Old Goat Mountain, etc.
