gkaufmanExcellent bushwack  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 1, 2008

Parked at the Mary's Rock tunnel overlook and bushwacked up and over the tunnel to the intersection with the AT where the bushwacking got too overgrown. Summit was empty, cold, and windy. The fall colors were mostly gone but there were still some making for a beautiful day.

KobaNorth AT  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 12, 2008

Rocky summit is cool but the real less visited gem (or at least when I visited with Panorama closed) is the AT north of Mary's Rock coming down to Thornton Gap, wow!

YEMAT in Winter  Sucess!

This was back before I knew about crampons. They sure would have been helpful. Mary's maintains a commanding view of the area and is a great conditioning hike.

vanman798Several Times  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 18, 2000

I've walked to this rock several times. The views are nice. I can't pinpoint an exact date, but I know I did it one time the same week as Earth Day in 2000 (Earth day is always April 22).

CheesySciFiA foggy and rainy day  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 5, 2006

My mom and I hiked up the Meadow Springs Trail to Mary's Rock. A light rain was falling and the forest was shrouded in mist. It made the hike a different experience from the clear days that I was used to.

Hiked from Rockfish Gap as part of a 5 day hike on the AT through SNP.

Buz GroshongClimbed it many times  Sucess!

A great hike is to go up the Buck Hollow Trail and up to Mary's Rock then up the AT and down the Pass Mountain Trail with a one mile shuttle at the bottom.

Beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky, but it was windy! Hiked from the restaurant to Mary's Rock, then to The Pinnacle and back.

SteveinFXBGRoute Climbed: Meadow Spring Trail Date Climbed: January 21, 2006  Sucess!

Climbed the Meadow Spring Trail with my fiancee and her friend. The wind was really blowing hard at the top. It made scrambling to the USGS marker on the summit a bit more challenging that the previous time I came up here (March '04).

This climb was well worth the view. Even on a nice day like today -- 68-70 degrees -- the summit was not as crowded as I bet Old Rag was; about 10 - 12 people and 3-4 dogs at any time during my 45 minute visit. Fall colors were a bit past their peak, but spent time watching the falcons or hawks - - there was some debate among the watchers.

The southern portion of the park was still closed due to fresh snow. So I did this hike on a whim. Easy hike, with fresh fallen snow and thick fog. No view at the top due to the fog, unfortunately. Boulders were icy.

hgrapidRoute Climbed: Panorama Restaurant - Appalachain Trail Date Climbed: 6/30/04  Sucess!

1,210 feet up to the summit in just under 2 miles. It took me about 35 minutes to get to the top, but another 10 to get the courage to hit the real summit which is a bit further in, and required some class 2 boulder negotiation. Alas, the USGS marker and much better views awaited me on the real summit.

Completely socked-in and raining. Steep climb up from Thornton Gap. Now for the Pinnacles and Rock Creek Shelter.
