Date Climbed: Aug 21, 2008

A long but rewarding hike from the Little Blanco TH. A spectacular day in the South San Juans.

Nice Axe!Great area!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 20, 2009

Road is still gated, but there is talk of opening that gate soon. As Scott said, we crossed Treasure Creek immediately and headed up the east drainage. Having descended the main drainage, IMHO, the east drainage is the preferable ascent direction. We enjoyed really nice waterfalls on both the ascent and descent, but the most beautiful and unique one was on our descent. This was my first time to this area; it has much to offer!

scotthsunice loop hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 20, 2009

The road is still gated just as SarahT says below. We met a friendly local out hunting, and he gave us a recommendation to take the left-hand trail (at road's end) that crosses Treasure creek immediately and then heads up the drainage to the east of the drainage below Summit Peak. We followed his suggestion and ended up with a nice loop hike, up the eastern drainage and down the main one. We ended up bushwhacking down the south side of Treasure creek on the way down, but it wasn't too bad.

SarahThompsonMorning after 1st snowstorm of season  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 13, 2009

Violent and long-lasting thunderstorms in the middle of the night terminated with a short but heavy snowstorm before dawn. We awoke to an inch of snow at the trailhead and found 6 inches up high. Very wet, slippery hike. Road is currently closed almost 2 miles before the trailhead due to damage.

kavakTreasure Creek Route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 5, 2004

I climbed this the day after a heavy snowstorm blanketed the high peaks. There was over a foot of snow on the peak but did not present any major problems. Somewhere along the route a black bear's tracks accompanied mine. I eventually saw the black dot along the side of the mountain as he ambled away.

Route finding is a bit tough after you leave the Treasure Creek drainage, but once I summited, it was well worth it. Saw a huge herd of elk above me during the descent.

weeds19Snow everywhere  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 8, 2006

We drove into the Treasure Creek TH while a light snow began to fall. By the time we reached the summit the wind was howling and there was 8" of snow on the ground. Views consisted of white emptiness. We really enjoyed the waterfalls on the way down and got some great pics of them as the snow coated the edges of the cliffs.

This was the first time we actually set up camp and spent the night on a summit. Awesome sunset on a beautiful summit.
