wyopeakMikea rugged peak  Sucess!

I went from Buckhorn once in the late eighties on a cloudy foggy day. I first was on a false summit and then the clouds parted and I could see the real peak above me. I really enjoyed the view from the summit. The routes up from the canyon below looked like some real fine adventures.

Grabbed Twin Peaks and Waterman today. Warm, and not much breeze, but an early start helped make it a bit better. Nice views in this part of the range.

Out of shape. Got leg cramps. Toughed out to the peak. Struggled more on the way back up from the saddle. Great views and peak.

Nice Peak but only 3 quarts of water was not enough. At this time of year, dispite an early start 5 quarts would have make this far more enjoyable.

Climbed Twin Peaks from 3 Points via the Waterman Trailand then ascended Waterman. Returned to 3 Points using the Waterman's West Ridge via a nice use trail. With Coco the dog.

Hiked from Buckhorn first to Waterman and then to the East Twin. Great views all around. Ran into deers, rattlers, and a bear (between Twin Peak saddle and junction to Waterman).

I didn't bring enough water, especially given the heat, to make it all the way out. Maybe another quarter mile to the rocks. Don't think I'll try it again, though - that ridge was really brutal!
Shredded my gaiters and a pair of work gloves, got covered in sap, chased by wolverines. OK, well maybe not that last one...

Best done on a cool day as most of the trail faces south

Quick out and back on a nice, breezy day. Man, that ridge to the Triplets looks difficult/fun.

Climbed Twin Peaks from Three Points years ago late in the summer. Amazing views from the summit, long and hot hike in and out having my camelback puncture halfway out, then coming inches from stepping on a rattlesnake.

Date Climbed: Aug 18, 2005

Finally made it over there. Kept thinking that I was dark over toward Baldy. After eating lunch I heard the first clap of thunder. Hurried back up Waterman and made it just over the ridge when it came over me. Ran down a gully and spent 15 ugly minutes in a hailstorm with CLOSE lightning strikes. Taught me a lesson!

Date Climbed: May 12, 2007

Climbed both Waterman and Twin Peak with ODC. Then we explored the east ridge about 3/4 of the way to Triplet Rocks. Great hike. Here is the Google Earth kmz file showing the route with photo placemarks.

Finally got up here. Got the balls to pay for the gas. I live in Azusa, and if R39 was open, it would be a quick drive up there and back, as I live on R39. Damn road closures. Parts caved in. Anyway, a nice day, really nice visibility for a change (I pick the bad days). Did some bouldering on the summit of both east and west Twin, and looked down at Triplet Rocks thinking how close it looks but how damn hard it's going to be to reach someday.

All in all, a nice day to break in my new Evolv shoes and drink sake on the summit of something.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Very nice hike. This was the first time I'd taken the Twin Peaks trail and only my second time on this mountain. The south side of Waterman was almost devoid of snow. It was fast moving to the Twin Peaks Saddle. From there the snow was thin but firm. The weird thing I noticed was that there are carins everywehre. There are a few less now. The weather was very nice. Temps in the 40's. It was breezy on the summit. Haze did limit the spectacular southern view. I revisited the ledge campsite after the summit and then headed home. As I returned, high clouds began to form making for a beautiful sunset.

Only saw two people on my way to the sign for Mt. Waterman. Then I caught up with Mike and Phil; two guys from the San Gabriel trail builders. Had a chat with them at the saddle and continued up to the East Twin. I came a across the same group cbuelow mentioned below (I think I ran into him too). As nobody else was heading up, I had the summit to myself and spent almost an hour on top relaxing in the warm late October sun. Expected to see more smoke from the esperanza fire; San Jacinto was till faintly visible.
Great day, good hike!

Headed back to Twin Peaks after tagging Waterman. It was the weirdest thing - I was alone the entire way up to Waterman, down to Twin Peaks Saddle and up to the top. Then, as I top out on the west summit of Twin Peaks, there was a group of 15 up there packing up to leave. They left within 2 minutes and I lingered for another 30 minutes. Never saw them again. All in all, a gorgeous day and a nice hike.

Mountain ImpulseRoute: Trail from Buckhorn Date Climbed: Oct. 22, 2006  Sucess!

A beautiful day for a hike. My first time up this trail. When the twin peaks came into view, I was immediately fascinated by the sight of the east ridge and Triplet Rocks. I put it on my must-do list. The trail from Twin Peaks Trail up the north slope to the summit of East Twin was heavily cairned, but really didn't need it. On the return, we hiked to Mt. Waterman.
