bjd5578An interesting challenge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 18, 2005

This was my second attempt on this peak - the first, a few weeks before, I had to turn back because of snow. Started up through the forest by the Henderson mine (previous time, tried from the road instead), which was a challenge, given that we couldn't find the trail.

A nice summit anyway, and a good warmup to the 14er season!

Steven CrossContinentel Divide Trail to East Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 3, 2006

This was my last training hike for Mount of the Holy Cross. Did this to the saddle with full pack.
Parked at the Trail head, yet could not find it. Headed up the road looking for it and stopped at an old closed off road I thoutht might be the trail. Realizing that the trail was 600 feet above me I hiked straight up the mountain to the trail. This saved my a few miles and at least an hour. Headed to the pass and took off my pack and put on my day pack for the rest of the hike up.
On the way down I stayed on the trail until I found the conjucting trail and took it down. Found that it starts in the middle of a grass field, would of never found it on the way up.

Beautiful skies all day. Spent 45 minutes on the summit, wished I did not have to get back to the city, could of spent a couple of hours up there.

miztflipBobtail and Vasquez from Jones Pass  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 12, 2006

What a great outing. Beautiful weather with my wife and dog. The stroll along the divide is gentle and has awesome views. We passed over the summit of Bobtail Benchmark enroute to Vasquez.

Winter conditions. Snowshoes were needed in places. Snow too soft to get a bite with an ice axe.

I wasn't feeling particularly energetic this day. This was a substitute hike as we were supposed to be doing Peak C instead. An early fall snow storm had cancelled that hike so we did Vasquez Peak instead. I struggled through the hike especially with the wind. Took a nice nap on the summit. Don't remember much else....

Aaron JohnsonRoute Climbed: West Slopes from Jones Pass & Continental Divide Date Climbed: October 2002  Sucess!

Did this hike with the IU group on a windy fall day. Once we dropped off the Divide, we escaped the buffeting winds and scrambled over some fun Class 2 terrain on a ridge runnig east to Vasquez. The climb was unrelenting but quick. It was cold on the summit and our stay was brief.

Not keen on battling the winds, three of us descended another route back to the Jones Pass road. We hiked in the calm and warm shelter of the lee side of the Divide while the rest battled the winds along the ridge back to the cars. We lounged by the road until they arrived in the vehicles to pick us up. This descent route would make a good ascent route to Vasquez as well.

Beautiful area! And once away from the road, isolation is yours!

Vasquez Peak was a mountain I didn't expect to enjoy nearly as much as I did. The calm demeanor combined with the extensive wildflowers realy made this a fun mountain to spend time on. I raced storm clouds the entire day but it didn't actualy start raining till I was back at the car. Sopris dog was along with me on this trip.
