This was my 8th time climbing Sniktau. Many of those were in the winter. Access is easy from Loveland Pass. The dependable wind usually keeps much of the snow blown from the easy ridge.
great easy winter summit Date Climbed: Jan 27, 2008
Just last month I turned around at Point 13,152 because I didn't want to find out how much worse it could get. This Sunday was no stroll in the park but it was at least reasonable and much more pleasant than the ski traffic back to Denver.
A surprisingly steep first pitch and a 24-hour elevation change of over 12,000ft made this a memorable first 13er! Wonderful weather, sweeping summit views, and a fantastic sunrise over Pt. 12,915 didn't hurt either.
I climbed this several times....Well if you consider from Loveland Pass as climbing it??????????? But I do enjoy using this route as a great warm up and keeping in shape. I average 3 times a year with this super easy route
Jon Nelson and I hiked Sniktau from the pass. The weather was great- the big rainstorm from the night before left plenty of fog in it's wake, so we had a nice break from the sun. Looking southeast at the lake 1000 feet below was quite a sight. Nice mellow warmup hike though the next hike won't be- Mount Powell.
Quick little recovery hike today. Did Sniktau from Loveland in about 45 min, then traversed over to Grizzly and ran back to Loveland. A little under 3 hours round trip. Storms were moving in early today... thunder by 11am.
