| One of the peaks we bagged while approaching from the Fobes trail and leaving from the Devil's Slide. Camped about 1/2 mile to the east, and got this in the chilly morning with wind gusts. Great views! | ||

| Took my sister on her first backpacking trip. Camped in little tahquitz valley and summited after dinner. We hit the top as the colors in the sky were disapearing. I want to go back in winter. | ||

| Nice stroll from Humber Park. The "climbers trail" is easier to follow than some maintained trails I have been on. Easy to spot if you are paying attention at all. Views were incredible before clouds and wind blew in. | ||

| Day Hiker | Devil's Slide to PCT ![]() Date Climbed: Sep 16, 2006 | |
| Saw the cairns for the turnoff from the PCT, but did a little extra mileage on the PCT, so I wound up ascending from the east, scrambling up the ridge from the PCT at a point approximately northeast from Red Tahquitz. Summited Peak 8792 first before heading back east to Red Tahquitz. Descended back to the PCT the correct way via the trail from Red's summit and marked it on the GPS for future reference. The extra mileage made the whole day about 12.5 miles round trip. | ||

| Since I hit Red Tahquitz in full blown (SoCal) winter conditions previously, I thought it only right to try it again while the trail was dry. Wellll, I skirted around further east on the PCT and found myself bushwacking across the mid-section of Red Tahquitz at about 8500' and doing some fun 3rd/4th classy stuff to the summit. I'll call this the East Slope Direct. Not much sign of human footprints unless he/she was under 4' considering the low hanging branches and brush. Decent view of several fires raging in all directions of SoCal. | ||

| Climbed somewhere with my yahoo dirt biking (not mountain biking) friends. I was suprised to make it where ever we ended up, one of the guys asked if there were any fu#king down hills on the way up Devils Slide. Anyway we all fell asleep somewhere on the rocks near the peak and ended up hiking down in the dark. | ||

| Hiked as a part of the loop in this area with my 7 yr old son. this loop is ~11 ml according to GPS. It was warm (~70F) and the snow has almost gone from the trails. We returned via Tahquitz Valley branch to Saddle Junction. TValley is a beatiful area indeed and it is worth hiking through it in spring. On the funny side, I met 2 PCT-hikers whom I saw a week ago in Mount Laguna USPS office: it took them a while to get to San Jacinto area. In general, the RT is a good hike in a great area, thought I would prefer to do the cross-country traverse across peak 8792 to be on adventure side. | ||

| Ah-ha! All I needed was a couple of week's rest and 7 good hours to beat this beast! Still had to break trail for a few miles and of course I didn't come back the same way I went; talk about post-holy shit! Got to do some front-pointing on the northern most peak, great frozen snow about 18" deep where I fell through a few times. Red Tahquitz summit is covered in rusty red rocks, hence the name, and nearly every conifer was dead or dying, such a shame. The view to the south and towards Salton Sea is spectacular even with the prescribed burns going on today! (previous post on 13 March 2004 -It was a beautifully warm day (60 degrees) with perfect sunshine, which led to my demise on the trail. Nevermind it's only been 6 days since the LA Marathon, what made me think I could make an 11 mile trip with constant post-holing?! Even my daughter bailed at Saddle Junction. Failed to summit but got close enough to be intrigued. I'll be back!) | ||
