CatamountLate winter hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 19, 1996

Just an incredible amount of snow on this peak the day I hiked it from Grafton Notch and no one had been through in quite some time. Swam through chest deep snow at times although the conditions improved a good bit once I hit the ridge.

Climbed via the Old Speck Trail from Grafton Notch. A great introductory hike to everything Maine has to offer. A steep and steady ascent from Grafton Notch led to great views from the summit tower. The only downside was the swarms of black flies swarming around the summit.

Climbed with my uncle, father and brother when I was about 7. I don't remember too much about it other than thinking it was a long hike.

Date Climbed: Jun 11, 2006

Despite the dreary weather, I honestly enjoyed this mountain. The waterfalls and slides along the trail made it worth it. Several points where I am sure that would be a great view. But, during our trip, all they did was show us what complete nothingness looked like! It was a good time. I expect that I will hike this one again once my NE4000 are done.

Lots of snow on top and we had no snowshoes making the last quarter mile very difficult. An awesome mountain.

We didn't actually touch the summit, as we were trying to finish the traverse before dark and were pretty done in, but the climb from the pond is spectacular, as is most of the traverse.

My Dad and I climbed this and thoroughly enjoyed the glorious fall foliage. I'll scan and submit the pictures I have if I can find them.

Last day of a great trip. It was foggy and I hardly had a view. I loved the notch.

climber46Route Climbed: AT (Uphill), Link herd path(downhill) Date Climbed: July 22, 2005  Sucess!

Started hiking up the AT via the Eyebrow Spur. It took 3 hours to reach the summit. It was a tough hike up. The views from the lookout tower were magnificent. Mahoosuc Notch was very visible as well as the rocky upper sections of Baldpate. I spent over an hour at the summit. For the trip down, I hiked the old Link trail down the NE ridge. It was hardly a trail--It reminded me more of an Adirondack unmaintained herd path. The views on the open rock slabs were nice, but many cripplebrush sections of the upper trail are overgrown. It was certainly an adventure. I definitely recommend this peak as a very enjoyable hike.

It was great to finally reach this summit after the Mashoosucs wore us down. The entire range is spectacular. The climb up from Speck Pond on the exposed shoulder of Old Speck was something else.
