colinpenceGlacier and Whale from Georgia Pass  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 23, 2005

Betsy and I climbed this mountain from Georgia Pass, and by coincidendental timing we managed to meet Randy and Sharon Breunlin (and her nephew) at the top of Whale. They arrived simultanously via the gibson Lake route, and we had a great party at the summit.

Date Climbed: Sep 1, 2008

Late start from Jefferson Lake. I meant to go for a nice easy dog walk. Ended up scrambling up very loose, exposed terrain on the SE face of Pt. 12,245'. Not exactly sure why. Descended gentler slopes into the Jefferson Creek drainage as thunderstorms approached. I was joined by my brother's samoyed, Vlad.

Date Climbed: Sep 1, 2008

We started the day one of only two 4x4s at the Georgia Pass summit. We greetd three bow hunters and were on our way in the silence of the Continental Divide. The views, once we left the trees near Georgia Pass, were out of control lovely the entire hike. After summitting, we then encountered the armada of ATVs chugging up the mountain. By the time we got back down to the pass it was a 3-ring circus of ATVs, Jeeps, SUVs, dirt bikes, hikers, dogs, kissing couples, retirees and mountain bikers. This is a great dog hike with knock-out views. Partner: Husband. Dogs: Lady, Bing & Lela.

I was joined by my wife and two dogs. We started at Jefferson Lake and gained Glacier's S Ridge just above the lake. The hiking was nice and gentle with lots of tundra hiking. We tagged glacier and hiked on to Whale. We finished by going over the 2 ranked 12ers to the South and descended steeply to the Lake.

A mellow hump with what I imagine would be great views were it not for the whiteout. The trip back to Jefferson Lake was enjoyable too. A nice easy hike.

I drove to the summit of Glacier Peak from Georgia Pass in my stock Jeep Wrangler. There were a couple of rocky sections along the Continental Divide but I didn't have much difficulty in my stock vehicle. The summit offers great views and we didn't see anybody else near the peak all day.

First climbed the mountain with Vernon Garner on a glorious summer day. Later went on to climb Guyot and a few of the other surrounding peaks. The view of Glacier Peak from Whale Peak is most impresive. This is a great mountain for beginners or for a relaxing stroll above timberline for all mountain lovers. Good training for winter conditions, too.

Glacier Peak is a fine ealy season mountain that I ascended on the second day of spring. The road to Georgia Pass was compacted by snowmobiles but the spotty coverage of snow on the road meant I didn't have to share my route with the machines. The walk along Glacier Ridge is undeniably spectacular. The terrain is easy but the views are incredible. Along with me on this hike were my dogs Sopris and Raymond.
