Went up with my friends, and I made it to the summit for the first time out of how many times I've climbed this peak. Never bothered to make it to the top.

Went up Falling Rock Canyon then continued on to Ontario and Bighorn Peaks and down Icehouse Canyon with a Sierra Club group. Nice day, but no views due to fog.

An unexpectedly cool route! This is a good route to practice on for steep talus, as parts of it seem more like a Sierra mountain than a typical mountain in the San Gabriels. I saw two bighorn sheep up at the saddle between Sugarloaf and Ontario.

Very fun route. Took a side trip up the first scree slope on the left to the ridge between Fir Draw and FRC. Nice views up Ice House Canyon. Came back down and continued up the canyon to the saddle between Sugarloaf and Ontario then on up to the summit. 3 hrs car to car.

Date Climbed: Oct 11, 2008

he wanted to do it, so I organized it with a group that ballooned to 10 (too many), but still we were successful in avoiding any injuries, although I did manage to take a rock in the forearm. FRC is a lot of fun.

Went up Falling Rock Canyon and the first scree slope west to the peak immediately east of Sugarloaf summit. Continued further on the ridge to Ontario Peak. Climbed Bighorn on the standard trail and descended from the summit directly to Icehouse saddle. Great hike with a lot of up and down steep scree slopes.

TripoliRickOne of my favorite ways to Ontario

After seeing it many times driving up the road we took some climbing gear and scoured its slopes for climbing potential. If it were in my backyard that would be cool but there is better stuff in SoCal. There are 3 or 4 short falls that ice up on good years for some limited ice climbing in Falling Rock canyon. After coming down Sugarloaf one winter my friend slipped and after a hundred feet of so his axe stopped him five feet above the largest falls. We got back to the car after a surprise storm had covered the roads with ice and would strand something like 2 or 3 THOUSAND people in their cars for the night.

Deep snow and ice-covered rocks in FRC, nice snow conditions on the North Slope. A fun route done in a short day.

TacoDelRioAttempt via FRC
Date Climbed: Dec 17, 2006

Attempt via Falling Rock Canyon. Didn't make it too far. I hadn't scouted the route before, there was a ton of new snow, etc. Looking forward to going up with anyone anytime.

Did not summit.

bechtt5 Peaks Hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 26, 2006

Hiked 5 peaks (plus Ontario false peak) with Travis via Falling Rock Canyon (great cl.2/3 scramble.) Hit Sugarloaf, Ontario, Bighorn, Cucamonga, and Etiwanda before exiting via the Icehouse Canyon trail. We were fortunate to get great views from all five summits before the clouds enveloped the peaks.
