I basically grew up on Sunset. Another great walk for the views and nature.

Did a six mile circuit that included all three summits, as well as the sub-summit rock outcropping at the south end of the chain. Windy day, but otherwise great. Sure was a lot of bushwhacking, though. A whole lot.

This was one of the densest bushwacks I've ever encountered! A desperate battle with shrubs and trees lead me up the gulley to Point 2137', where the going became much easier. A series of clearings led up to the main summit at 2255'. I then descended SSW and climbed up to the spectacular top of "Sunset Spire", the southernmost summit of the Sunset massif. I found a better route for the descent, thanks to the local bovine community, but had to brush off 37 ticks in the process (only 2 actually sunk their fangs in). A note to all, May is definitely tick season in the Wichita!

My son Ben and I climbed this peak on a cold morning. I remember the temperature in Lawton was 43. But as we reached the summit of the north peak we encountered solid ice on the boulders with no melting. Light Scrambling, bushwhacking, and bouldering.

Wow, the furthest north peak was a whip to say the least. Major bushwacking through dense scrub oak. My legs are trashed. Continued on and summited the 3 other summits on this large mountain.

Sure...let's go bushwacking in the 90 degree heat:) Thank goodness for the clouds. Great hike in the Wichitas.

This was a great day in the Charon Gardens. Nothing like a good bushwhack to get the blood pumping!
