jrfNorth Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 19, 2009

We went up the North Ridge and descended back towards Antero. Huge storm over Shavano on the descent but it never came closer to us. Think km_donovan was who we met on the summit.

Ascended the North Ridge and returned via the Southwest Ridge descending via Baldwin Lakes. Great Ridge climb, one of my favorites ever.

From the Cyclone Creek trailhead, I Climbed the South face of Grizzly Mountain, traversed to Cronin Peak, back to Cyclone Mountain, and then finished on Carbonate Mountain. Car to car was around 6 hours 40 minutes.

heather14A Good Plan B  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 26, 2009

Cronin turned into a good plan B. I went up the road toward Antero and headed up the gulch and slogged up the rock rib to join the ridge proper. The rock rib was definitely steeper than I thought it was going to be!

This was a fun one - we were forced off the summit and we literally skied down the scree field in the rain. Boulder surfing at age 6 - for the win!

We climbed the north ridge which seems like the standard route. we then then descended the east ridge which I think makes a better ascent route.

A solo 5 hour up, 3 hour down affair! Very cold up top but not much snow yet. The soak in the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs afterwards was a good way to get a happy ending.

Same summit log from '95. Around 25 log entries for this year. I expected it to be more popular than that.

This "loose" rock is a nice change from the San Juan's loose rock!

Date Climbed: Aug 20, 2005

Cronin is a pretty red/orange colored peak that stands in stark contrast to its larger, whiteish colored neighbor (Antero). We ascended the east ridge and descended the northeast ridge. Loose talus makes the climb slightly annoying. The northeast ridge was a little more difficult than the east ridge.

Date Climbed: Oct 2, 1993

I climbed Antero first via the standard route. I then followed the ridge over to then UN13870. I descended the north ridge. When it looked okay to do so, I dropped off the west side to W Baldwin Creek. There is a bunch of really big rocks that made for an interesting journey to rejoin the standard route near the 4WD parking.

To avoid the overcrowded Baldwin Creek area I opted for the secluded Cyclone Creek approach. You also have the chance to include several other Bi peaks from this direction. Great climb up a beautiful valley. Had the whole climb to my self. Also took in Cyclone and Carbonate.

Date Climbed: Jun 24, 2007

A very pretty mountain with nice views. Easy hike up the East ridge. A lot of loose rock on this peak, be careful. Opted to scree ski back to the Baldwin Gulch Rd rather than follow the North ridge.

shknbkeEast Rib  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Feb 10, 2007

Climbed what we dubbed the east rib, as it was mostly windblown. Started all the way from the 2wd trailhead, but we had very favorable snow conditions. A long grunt in winter.

Chicagotransplant suggested this outing and what a day! Beautiful weather and spectacular panoramic views made this a great trip. There were a couple of windloaded spots along the ridge but expected more snow than what we encountered. Can't wait to go back and climb more of the surrounding peaks.

Climbed with James Hay. Despite the recent front range and northern mountain snows there was only 4" of snow on the road and we made it all the way to 10,840' in my XTerra. There were pockets of slabby windblown snow on the ridge, but mostly it was pretty clear. Great views of the Southern Sawatch, we could also see from Pikes to Uncompahgre on this clear fall day.

Date Climbed: Aug 26, 2006

After summiting Antero and begining the saddle to Cronin, Debbie and I were chased off the mountain by hail and lightnening. We returned to my Tacoma at 11000', then drove back up the 4WD road so I could get Cronin. I quickly made my way up the SE ridge as snow and some lightening approached. Whiteout horizontal snow storm in August on the way down. Ahh, only for those who get up high. Score!

Nice ascent. Good to get away from the 4x4 trail of Antero.

Completely butchered my hand when I fell about 50 feet short of the summit. Nevertheless, continued on to Grizzly and Mount Mamma, quite a nice trek.

Brad SniderGreat to climb, Tough to escape!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 7, 2006

Climbed the snowy east slopes of Cronin Peak after Mount Antero. Slippery, dicy descent on the north side of the mountain, followed by endless talus-hopping and a long slog through the snow back out to the Baldwin Gulch Road. Did have some great glissading on Cronin's northwest slopes, and even saw a few billy goats. First to sign the summit log since last October!
