A fall-like day on the mountain. Thought we would get rained on but we managed to get lucky and avoid it. Tundra was brown and crunchy - fall is definitely here in high country. Wanted to go over to Gemini but weather wasn't looking good. Nice views from the summit.

Climbed via Scramento Gulch via ATV road used for patrolling the power lines. For the sake of expediency, we blazed across the tundra rather than execute my proposed route up a steep, blocky butttress to the tundra bench below the Dyer summits for a nice finish on the NW ridge between the two peaks. The price was all the loose rock on the mountain's NE face. Still, an enjoyable day and we took our time descending through the basin to enjoy the area. The power lines were mildly intrusive. The weather was cold and blustery on top with spotty showers passing through on the eve of a cold front. Climbed with Usual Suspects Ellen, Barb and Cheryl. Saw other groups, but we had the mountain to ourselves on top. Private property issues on the south side of the drainage should be looked in to. Possible east ridge access to Gemeni Peaks would be nice from there.

A nice quick day for Dyer & Gemini. Scratched plans for Sherman & Sheridon due to the wind....imagine that, windy on Sherman.

I visited the summit of "Mount Evans B" after reaching the top of Dyer Mtn. When I returned to my car, my car battery was dead..luckily I got a jumpstart from the only others around.

Skinned all the way to the summit from the ASARCO mine, then skied back down. Really fun tour, corn snow up high, with a little boilerplate for the lower half of the descent. 4.5 hours round trip.

We started at Lower Iowa Gulch trailhead, went up Dyer Amphitheatre to the saddle, then up Dyer's west ridge to summit Dyer. We then went down the east ridge, climbed the twin summits of Gemini and then Sherman. We descended to the Sherman - Sheridan saddle and then dropped back down to our start point.

Easy climb. Left the snowshoes and crampons in the truck at Iowa Gulch near the mine. (Used an axe during the descent occasionally, though.) Not much snow/ice yet. Took a short nap on the summit.

Started on the wrong trail but found a great route. The power lines were a bother, but a beautiful day all together.

Dyer was a whole lot more inviting and fun than Sherman or Gemini. Thankfully, the snow was still sufficently hard enough so I didn't posthole (that much). Stellar views of Iowa Gulch and Leadville.

Layne Bracy and I had a pleasant hike up Dyer via the s.e. slopes. We were able to drive our cars up Iowa gulch to 11620' and could have gone farther. Dyer was too easy, so Layne headed to Gemini and I to Evans B. The wind kicked up ferociously and ate us for lunch. See the TR. 71/100 highest in CO for both of us.

Second time up Dyer, the previous week's storms left me with knee to waist deep postholing the whole way. I was hoping to go over to Evans B but the snow was taking too long and I had to get to work, bummer!

Climbed Dyer as part of a West Dyer to Sheridan traverse. The west ridge was certainly the highlight of the traverse. I thought it was fair to call the ridge 3rd class without descending much from the ridge proper, but there were plenty of fun 4th class to be found. I came across a few handholds that were on the loose side and one that was very loose. Getting down onto the small dirt-filled notch was interesting!

An Elk bugled when I stepped onto the trail in the morning. An elk bugled in the afternoon when I stepped off the trail and back onto the road. Never saw anyone that day; just heard the elk. Thanks.

One of my favorite Tenmile/Mosquito ridges. Don't forget to run up West Dyer, it's a great little summit and good views of the rest of the ridge.

Larry VEast ridge via Sherman and Gemini  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 8, 2006

Had to do this one solo as my climbing partner stopped before reaching the low point between Gemini and Dyer. (Smart!) The snow was deep and crested on the ridge. Looked dicey from a distance but was solid. Upper slopes of Dyer were completely snow covered and the wind was really blowing the snow around. Exhausting day, not too cold.
