Date Climbed: Jul 26, 2009

Hiked up a very wet Bighorn Creek trail, climbed the N. Ridge in the clouds, and made the summit early but the weather wasn't in it for us today. The Grand Traverse waits for another day

Did N. Traverse after Keller, then did the traverse over to Grand Traverse. Topped the day out by hitting 12485, making for a LONG day. See TR.

"Discovered" a route that took us to the ridge. We hopped over North Traverse, retraced our steps, and spent the rest of the day on the difficult Grand Traverse. A really fun but exhausting day.

Slept in our trucks at the TH the night before and listened to a fantastic thunderstorm. It was still drizzling in the morning and after debating whether we should even give the traverse a try to decided to go for it. Surprised to see snow on the peaks. Ice and snow made for a cold and slippery traverse, but we had a great time.

Started on North Traverse Peak with snow and some ice on the ridge! Made things a bit slower but definately enjoyable. SarahT and myself actually kept to most of the ridge crest. One of the Gardarmes proved to be more 'cruxy' than the actual crux. Fun ridge route though with great east-facing exposure!

We went straight up the side of this mother. Routefinding was difficult but very fun to avoid technical rock and other mess. This was en route to the Grand Traverse.

The traverse between the two peaks (North Traverse and Grand Traverse) looks fierce from below, but in reality its pretty easy except for one climb up a buttress. I forgot my boots, so did the entire traverse in tennis shoes.

Once again we got lucky with excellent weather late in the day. We summited N. Traverse at around 3:30 p.m. with minimal cloud-cover. Upper Bighorn Creek is gorgeous. Having been on both of the Grand Traverse's summits, N. Traverse has the much better approach and climb, but I thought Grand Traverse had a little better view. Both are well worth the effort. While up in Bighorn Creek take the time to explore this pristine area, you will not be dissapointed.
