SarahThompsonWest slopes from Pitkin Creek  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 23, 2006

From camp at ~10,400 ft along Pitkin Creek. Nice short Sunday morning hike before packing out. Steep route - 2700 feet in 1 mile. Not too bad though after some initial typical Gore bushwhacking.

Climbed along with "Skiers Pt", "Climbers Pt", "Vista Pt" and "X" on a nice long ridge traverse from the Pitkin Creek side. Beautiful clear day for a ridge run!

Summitted Mount Solitude via Skiers Point, and Climbers Point after staying at the Bighorn Hilton with Timothy Pearl. Amazing views from the whole ridge and especially of the Grand Traverse.

With Eric Holle. Spent night at Bighorn Hilton then left at 7am for Skiers Point. Variable snow conditions, saw lots of wet slides on west and south aspects. Crux of climb definitely at notch described by Kane, we roped up with 35meters of rope and descended an exposed 10ft-wide snow ledge. Summit Skiers Point, then on to Climbers, then on to Solitude, and back to the trailhead. 3hours-day 1, 10 hours-day 2. Will post trip report soon.

A fun mountain, the culmination of a very cool ridge. Andy and Kane made for pleasant company.

I'm glad we decided to extend our day and head on over to Mount Solitude from Climbers Point. I was ok with just Skiers Point and Climbers Point but knew i would kick myself if we didn't get Solitude. Nice mountain with better views. I would recommend this mountain along with Grand Traverse Peak as beginner Gore Range summits. The peak is non technical but steep, 4,400 ft in 4.5 miles! But that's what you get with the Gores, you have to work for those views.
