| My sons, Ben & Zach, and I hiked from the Sunset Parking Lot. We left the trail and ended up going a little north before returning to the E/W Trail at the N base of Crabeyes. We bushwhacked our way to the NE side of Mt Mitchell and ascended to the top via the somewhat gradual slope that extends from the peak of Mt Mitchell to the north. Saw a gray fox on the N slope return trip. A (3) hour hike in, (1) hour on the mountain, and a (2) hour return trip to the parking lot. | |

| Climbed the north face with attm. Heinous, but fun 4th and 5th class scrambling. | |

| Raman and I bypassed Mt. Mitchell on the way to Pt. 1928 and Pt. 1860, but then crossed the Mt. Mitchell Massif on the way back over the second highest and 3rd highest points eventually climbing Mt. Mitchell (1st highest) via the west face. After that we bushwacked over and climbed Crab Eyes. Nice cool clear day. | |

| I got fairly disoriented, but eventually ascended what I know is Mount Mitchell by what I think is the North Face. Topped out both summit boulders. | |

| Pleasant climbing in the Wichitas after a cool front lowered the temps into the high 80's with some clouds to cool it off a bit more. Nice climb up the north face with some lower 5th class moves needed. I came down the west face. | |
