Date Climbed: Oct 3, 2009

Great morning/early afternoon outing, though the winds were quite strong. Immediately followed by Oktoberfest at Olympic Village and snow flurries in the evening. Keep the white stuff coming!

A three legged dog walking backwards would've climbed it faster than we did. We were pretty lethargic and slowed by the heat. But it was a fine hike and the wildflower displays were among the very best I've seen in the Sierra.

Great conditions for snowshoeing, not so great for crampons. Beautiful area despite the resort.

Date Climbed: Mar 14, 2009

We packed in about half way and camped below the mountain. Spent the night and then summited the next day via the north ridge. Very cool area it's a shame it's covered in ski lifts and crowds...

I took the long Granite Chief Trail from Squaw Valley. It is quite a beautiful and amazing trail. I had tried to do this hike in April of 2007, but lost the trail in the snow. It is much easier in August. I found that August was a perfect time to do this hike.

Warm, smokey hike. Fires burning this Summer in the American River canyon have made the I-80 corridor look like something out of southern Cal. I would imagine on a clear day the views would be awesome. Another COHP completed.

Snowshoe from Olympic Village. Great day, less the buttholes of the squaw valley ski patrol.

I was glad to get one more hike in this late in the season without breaking out the snowshoes. Temps were in the low 20's at the start and it was really, really windy. We tried to hit Needle Peak but the winds were way to strong. Hiked with Ol'Walsher. Nice day.

Relatively straightforward hike. We got slightly turned around after we passed under the ski lift, but soon reoriented ourselves.

A nice, easy two-fer for the day. Tinker Knob and then Granite Chief out of Squaw Valley. The trail to the PCT meanders quite a bit and then disappears, but the XC is easy. Nice hike, but would be much better without the ski lifts. C2C time: 6 hrs 45 mins.
