Smoove910Dayhike from Stanley Lake  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 23, 2009

Went up to Observation Peak near Stanley Lake with my little brother for a dayhike. A most stellar trip which was mostly secluded (saw two groups). Weather was great, but started warming up around the usual 'noon' time. Can't say that I've ever seen a more beautiful vista, so you all can be the judge with the Sawtooth Pano pic (in my pic collection). Also was able to sign the register located at the top, very cool!

SawtoothSeanEarly Snow  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 16, 2008

Clear and sunny Fall day. The views of Regan with a little snow on it were spectacular. Snow was encountered at 7000 feet and by 8000 feet snowshoes would have made it easier, but we plowed through and reached the summit. Didn't see anyone on the trails or at trailhead.

Long trail but did half of it as trail run to make it go faster. Great view of "backside" of Sawtooths from summit. With a good telephoto lens all the spectacular climbing spires around Warbonnet can be studied. Can see pretty much whole main range from McGown to Snowyside and the Rakers.

The only Sawtooth Peak that has a trail to the summit. Great long run with views of Regan

From either side this is a long walk. But the name says it all. Spectacular view from the top.

Backpacking from Trail Creek Lakes back over to McGowen Lakes we ditched our packs and did a quick jaunt up to the top.

Beautiful day, beautiful views, simply a beautiful place.

We started from Stanley Lake and took a side trip to Lady Face Falls. Bridal Veil Falls is nice but hard to see from the trail. There isn't much elevation change for the first couple miles. Then you start climbing switchbacks until you get to the Observation Peak junction. From there the trail climbs steeply up the mountainside for about a mile to the summit. The view is outstanding. I would recommend this hike for the best view of the Sawtooths that requires just a walk-up. I don't recommend going in July because of all the mosquitoes.

I climbed Observation Peak again in September 2005. This time I was on a backpacking trip from Grandjean Trailhead. There were many wildfires in the area and the view was very smoky. This trail is much steeper than from Stanley Lake. There is now a summit register on top placed by Pete Yamagata (1000Pks) in 2004.
