| Straight up from north end of Kirkwood to Martin Point, then my wife and I headed over to the two summits. Was first in the lot around 7:15 AM. Took crampons and axe but only used snowshoes (good to have them though). A super day and great winter hike. | ||

| Another perfect day in the Sierra. Cool breezes, little fluffy clouds... Tagged Martin Point and Thimble Peak too. Both have some nice class 3 climbing if you look for it. The true highpoint of Thimble has some good exposure. | ||

| Solo weekday hike. Still plenty of snow hiding in the northern shaded areas. 40+ MPH winds along the ridge line. Great views of the Mokelumne Wilderness. | ||

| Used to go to Camp Silverado Boy Scout camp in the summers. We'd usually make an overnighter of the trip, bivy in the saddle between Thunder and Thimble, then summit for sunrise the next morning. Awesome memories of this hike. Looking forward to a chance to re-visit and hit it again! | ||

| I climbed this after a small snow storm, it was beautiful with light snow on the ground. I remember camping at Silver Lake as a child and looking up at Thunder Mountain, I never though I'd one day get to climb it. I also saw many other peaks in the area I'd like to climb, too bad winter is coming... Trip Report here | ||

| Started from the Horse Canyon trailhead on 88 up to the Thunder Mountain Loop Trail and up to the summit. No snow at all left, so bugs were not a problem and the trail condition was good. View of Silver Lake is incredible from the top. The rest of the surroundings were a bit hazy. Dined with the 2 chipmunks at the summit and headed back down. Overall a very enjoyable hike. | ||

| Took the weekend to camp with my girlfriend and retry the EVIL Thunder mountain. About the time we reached Carson (leaving northwest Reno) I realised that my damn shoes were still sitting at home. We went camping anyway, next morning decided hiking in flops is the only solution, we trudged all the way up to the true highpoint and upon not finding any register and being chased out my masses of nasty bugs we decided to get on up to the trail ending peak, sign the huge register and head back. In the end I had to throw out a pair of busted flops but mission complete Ashley and Patrick strike again. | ||

| This was a great hike, didn't see a single soul the whole time I was on the trail. It was California county highpoint #17 for me. Started a bit late in the day (5:00pm) and got back just after 9pm after a leisurely dinner and extended time on the peak. It was a truly perfect evening as I watched the sun go down from the summit. Not a breath of wind on the top, surprisingly. I had to cross a couple very small snowfields (20-30 feet wide) that laid across the trail. | ||

| Roughly followed the trail from near Carson Spur. We came back down the ridge to check out the two sentinels and all those weird corrugated roof structures along the way. | ||

| This was the first leg of what was supposed to be a longer traverse of the ridgeline from Carson Spur to Covered Wagon Peak and back via Emigrant Lake and Caples Lake. For some unknown reason, I bonked after reaching the top of Thunder Mountain and we only continued as far as Chair 6 at Kirkwood before turning back. Great views, and I look forward to doing the whole traverse next year. | ||

| Set out from Carson Spur at 6:30 a.m. There were areas of snow near the peak which were frozen and a bit slippery. I reached the 9,410' elevation and continued south to the Horse Canyon Trail (Lots of frozen snow covering the trail). Picked up the Horse Canyon Trail to Silver Lake and continued on the loop back up to Carson Spur (12 miles or so). Good half-day hike. | ||

| Fun "get-in-shape" hike with rgreene. Really enjoyable hike to the summit with nice views all along the way. I truely enjoyed taunting the skier's as they got off the lifts at Kirkwood. As rgreene stated, enjoyed our conversation with the "courteous" CHP officer. Can't wait to get back on the spur this summer and break in some rock routes on the two sentinals! | ||

| After a friendly encounter with CHP who were unimpressed with our continued attempts at entering the "no stopping, no parking, no peds" avalanche area - Brian and I got off to a late start at about 1pm. Summitted the county high point, and then took a half hour jaunt over to the main summit to sign the soggy register. Clouds covered the summit right after we left, and it was soon typical spring Sierra ridge experience (crazy winds, freezing cold). We brought crampons and ice axe, didn't use either. Snowshoes would have been helpful in a number of places due to soft snow en route. Returned to car slightly after 6pm. | ||
