| Anne Perry and I started about 8am from the Christmas Meadows TH. It was a nice day and we didn't have to worry about storms. At the trail split we took Ostler Fork to the stream crossing at a large meadow and then made our way to the north ridge which we followed to the top. It took about 4.5 hours to get there. The start of the ridge is annoyingly loose stuff, but it gets better after awhile. On the way down, we took the obvious chute to the west which starts at about 11600' at a small saddle. I also hiked this in 2001 with MM by essentially the same route. | |

| Ascended the slope just to the west of the north ridge until about 11,800 ft, then kept to the ridge the rest of the way to the summit. Continued along the ridge for an attempt on Spread Eagle before being chased off towards Gladys Lake by t-storms. Made Spread Eagle's summit the next morning. Skeeters were thick at times, but a great couple of days and not a soul around once the trails were left behind! | |

| No rain and no bugs, but "white flies" galore. The lakes froze overnight and didn't yet melt by early afternoon. Up N Ridge, back glissading the 1000-ft bowl to its West. Beautiful ice floes on Amethyst Lake! | |
