| One of my favorite Gorge peaks. Great views of volcanoes, no people and wide open terrain. I agree Brian, it feels a lot like NH or upstate NY. The pictures on summitpost inspired me to climb this soon after moving to Oregon. | |

| Nice hike/bushwack. Great weather. Left trailhead at 5:05, summit at 6:25, started back down at 6:40, back to car at 7:50. Missed the last cairn on the way down, so that part wasn't too fun. The ridgewalk was very cool, not exposed at all but fun. Great views as well. The drive to the trailhead was cool too, with even better views of Hood. Recommended, but BRING BUG SPRAY! | |

| I hiked up the Herman Creek trail, and did this scramble before camping at Wahtum Lake. Passed through a cool stand of old-growth cedar on the way up. The last band of trees on the ridge were also pretty neat to walk through. NIce view of the surroundng area, but the big volcanoes were mostly blocked by clouds. After camping at Wahtum Lake, I descended the PCT back to my truck, doing Chinidere on the way. | |

| This is my favorite Columbia Gorge trip so far. Beautiful summit, surprisingly alpine and awesome view of Mt. Hood in the morning light. Backpacked Herman Creek Trail to Cedar Swamp Camp (about 8 miles in) and spent the night in light rain. Packed up and hiked up to the peak in the morning. Hit snow around 3,500 feet. It had snowed the night before, and there was fresh powder on the trees. The trail was easy to follow, and the turnoff to the Tomlike path was pretty obvious. The route was tough to follow in the snow, so I just headed up, soon emerging above timberline to a great view of Tomlike. The stunted subalpine trees were covered in ice, and Mt. Hood was incredible. Followed the loose rock and snow along the ridge to the summit. A great snow trip. | ||

| This one made my day. As soon as you get off the Herman Trail, things get cool. Stunted alpine trees and a pretty much nonexistent trail along the edge of the ridge. Then, you come out of the trees and this one reminded me of a New England peak ridgewalk (except for those big volcanoes on the horizon). Fun hike through the thick trees that cross the ridge and a pleasant climb to the summit. Nice mini knife-edge. Great views and no one else on the trails all day. | |

| I'd climbed this one a couple of times back in the mid 90's but both times as a miserable bushwhack. This time I took my time, studied the ground for traces of some sort of trail and found one. I remembered seeing a sign many years ago, but even in the early 80's, the trail was too overgrown to spot with a casual look. Rewarding, solitary place. This Sept. day I was rewarded with great fall colors. | |
